Best 17" Tire Size?

Recommended Posts

Just trying to figure out what size/width of tire will clear for off-road use? I see that LT 265,285, and 295's can be used on an 8 inch rim, but do not know if the 295 will wear properly. Does anybody out there have any advice for me?

Thanks in advance.

I'll assume you mean for that GM truck that you have been looking for? 265/70/17 is basicaly stock size and work fine on an 8 inch wheel, 285s work pretty well but can rub, many run 295s but they are actually not the best fit on an 8 inch wheel and can also rub with no lift.

Thanks Jim, your assumtion is correct, is the clearance problem with the 285's solved with a leveling kit, or does it require a different offset? I'm thinking of getting 17" mb gunner rims, just not sure chrome or anthracite. What is the factory offset / backspacing anyhow?
