Traded Silverado(part 2)

This story is about the new Malibu I just purchased. It gets a little long but I ll try my best to explain. Traded my Silverado for an 08 Malibu. Had the car a day or so and noticed finger prints under the clear coat above the right rear door. I then began looking at the side in different types of light and found more fingerprints on the rear door. Also the edge of the clearcoat was peeling in spots. Then started to notice what looked like bondo work around rear fender lip and edge of rear door. Then I found overspray inside the fuel door. BINGO, I almost :D . I called the dealer back, which is 220 miles from home and because I bought a Corvette, Two Silverados, a Cobalt and two sisters then bought a Silverado and Hummer from them, I trusted them for the best price and an honest deal. They never disclosed the fact that the car was hit which is NJ consumer law. So after a few calls they wanted to re repair the damage and said it was just the rear quarter panel. I told them BS, that the damage and paint went to an included half the rear bumper. So after a few more "We ll call you right backs". They stated they cant take it back and wanted to know what else they could do and that they d pay to fix it anywhere I wanted to take it. I though about that for an hour or two. I also called NJ Division of Consumer Affairs and spoke to an investigator. He said they could get UP to $10,000 in fines for not disclosing the damage to me but it would not most likely be that high if they lost the hearing. But of coarse this would take time. So the dealer said we ll call you again tommorrow and see what we can agree on. So this morning the dealer called and said "You are going to get a lawyer and nail us to the wall?" I said , I only wanted a new car with none of this BS and I will do whatever it takes. He said, "we ll call you back" An hour later they called and said we have another car, identical for you. I almost couldn t believe it. So i drove back down 200+ miles and the salesman, who by the way was the only one calling and talking to me, re did the paperwork and I left with the other car. Now I know this guy for years and he claims he didn t know about the damage. I was so pissed I wouldn t even shake his hand and told him I may talk to him in a week or so when I cool off. The pu**y manager was no where to be found, and no one else from the dealer appoligzed or anything. The saleman was embarrased to say the least. So after the deal was done I said that if I can ,I ll F*** the dealer ship and that he should pass that on to the bosses. I don t think I want to hurt the saleman but I d love to stick it to the dealership now. So I m thinking of still making the complaint to the state even though it s now corrected. The survey I was told will only screw the salesman. Don t know if notifing GM will do anything either? What do you guys think? I just got back home with the new new car.

I can tell you, as the son of a former car salesman, that bombing them in the survey will hurt only the salesman. At least that's how it was here. Your dealership may vary.

As for filing a complaint with the state,.

at least I got the new car and may now be in the catbird seat  Probably took 5 years off my life when I first noticed the damage though..

Good for you. "repair the damage..." what a bunch of crap. Those dumbasses took you for a moron and you called their bluff. I would of demanded a different car as well. You aren't paying for some bondo queen.

Way to stand your ground. To bad you wasn't able to film this experience. Glad everything worked out for you.

same exact car, other than the pin strip which they will put on Monday if I want. Not sure which way looks better. The sticker price was a few hundred more on the new one and we think it was just built much later and had an increased price or destination charge. I think I was very luck to get out of this one.

WOW Mark. As much as I would be POd at th dealer, I sure am glad you noticed it and got the situation fixed. I pity the poor "next guy" that comes along and ends up taking that car home. Good job holding their feet to the fire... :idiot:

Edit: because I can't type.

:idiot: Thats horrible that a dealership would do that to you. I know they "corrected" the problem but that still sucks you had to go through that. At the very least I would file a complaint with www.bbb.org about it.

I wouldnt do anything more the problem is taken care of and its over. Yeah I can understand your pissed and so would I but its corrected and done. Let it go.

Are you sure the dealer knew about the repaired damage? Have you ever given thought of the fact that cars get damaged at the factory and are repaired before being shipped? Cars are transferred dealer to dealer & they could have received damage stock. Dealer had a chance to make it right. After some phone calls & discussion, looks like they did. What are you still pissed about? What more are you wanting? Time to move on and be happy with your replacement car.

I found out that the sales manager knew that the car was hit. I dont want anything more. I think if they were smart they would have tried alittle harder than just replacing the car. Big deal, they got caught and it didn t cost them anything, they just sold me aqnother car. I guess I m pissed that they took me for a fool. And I bought so many cars from them! Or I shouldn t say fool because they could have easily pulled it off on some un suspecting older person or something. And I told the saleman I bet for this one time you got caught that you probably got away with this 50 times. All us more mature, older, people know that you dont get caught the first time with anything. I happy with the car now but I m not sure I wont file a few complaints anyway. I guess I m still pissed. :fume. They got a long holiday weekend to hope I forget about it. I m going to do a little more research next week to see of NJ Consumers would care about the incident after it has been resolved or not. After all the violation did still occur. Also the BBBmight not be a bad idea but I don t think they will get involved after it has been settled. And thgen theres GM and last but not least the guy who run s the dealership( And he already knows). BTW, I m not sure the salesman knew as I ve knwon him a long time so I will not be sending in the bad review that goes to the saleman, I ll just dump it in the trash.
