for my 04 black extended cab silverado z71 im gonna get new wheels and tires, i know i want mastercraft courser AT i know i want to go bigger but not sure if i want 285/70/17 or just to 275/70/17 and dont know if i should stick with the blackwall or get white letters, im on a tight budget so i'll stick with the stock rims for a couple months then i eventually want to get a set of american racing cannons, so what do ya think about the size and the white letters ? i dont really want to lose alot of power thats why im concerned about the size, i have 3.73 gears, intake, exhaust, headers and chip right now

Definitely black walls.

As for size, either will look great. Personally I'd go 275 on the stock rims unless you think you'll be getting the Cannons soon.

Blackwall out. IMO, Courser tires suck. They do not last. You, may get mileage out of them, but they sure didn't hold up well for me. I don't think I have 40k on them, and they are shot. I am going back to Dayton Timberline A/T's. They last forever.

Mastercratf? Dayton? I've never even heard of them. Must be a non-Texas thing.

I vote for Blackwall 275s. :(

BFG All Terrains are bulletproof tires. I've had them on more that a few trucks. Their ride is stiff but they wear like iron and take just about any kind of punishment you can throw at them. I've heard they are not good in deep mud but I don't drive in deep mud so I don't know for sure. For about 60 bucks less per tire take a look at the Firestone Destination AT. I have some on my Jeep and my dad's Suburban and they are doing great. Wet traction is amazing with them.

+1, My '91 Sierra never saw anything but BFG AT's. Couldn't have asked for a better tire.

+2 My 2000 now has BFG's with over 50K miles on them and they look like they have at least 25% tread left and are wearing perfectly even. They do get rotated regularly though, which is important with any AT tire.

If I get 40K out of my Nitto Terra Grapplers, I'll be happy. I like the Nitto's, but next time I am going back to BFG's.

I would have bought them again for this truck but I didn't like how they looked on 20 inch wheels. I think if they are within your budget, you can't go wrong with them.

I had BFGoodrich All Terrains on my Jeep Wrangler and just put a set of 285/75/16 on my 2008 2500HD. They may cost a little more than the Mastercrafts, but in my opinion they are definitely worth it!

BLACK WALLS OUT FOR SHO!!!

Don't go cheap on tires, I'd go with the 285's just because they're bigger but that's just me. consider the BFG A/T KO's or the Cooper Zeon LTZ's. I have always had great luck with the BFG's and the Zeon's ride super smooth and look sweet.

    • I understand that. The price is what it is, though. The price is what oil costs today, where our choices have led us, where supply is, and where demand is, in the market that is. Speculation is for futures, what we think the price will be, but with incomplete information at the time the price is forecast. I know you know this, but you appear to be intent on making a secondary point here about what you think the market could or should be, if only other choices.   In 1975 it became illegal to export US Crude. I'm conflicted on what the best answer is. Free markets allow export in pursuit of profit. But there is also a lot to gain by producing and consuming our own oil here. How do you reconcile it?
    • That sir is a choice. And even if it were not for all the reasons stated, this disruption has zero to do with the reality of the actual logistics and everything to do with the greed of SPECULATION. Spot price is irrelevant to reality.
    • What I think you're saying is there is supply here at home, and in Venezuela, and we could ease pricing if only it were favorable to do so.   Well, yes?   But that's not the current market. Supply isn't what could someday exist, if only, it's what producers are willing to produce and sell at a certain price point.   The national price of single family homes would come way down if we'd just slap together a few million homes this summer.   RAM and GPUs would get a lot cheaper if we just set up some factories to produce a bunch more and stopped using it to build out AI data centers.
