Next month I will have owned my truck for a year, which means my Onstar subscription will expire.. What im asking is, is the 18$-28$ a month fee worth it?

how many of you have already used their Onstar and what for??

I am in the same situation. Mine expires in two weeks and I don't know if I want to renew mine because I never needed it and on my other truck I never needed it. I might extend for one year and that is it if I don't use it then.

I use it,I have the "Directions & Connections" plan,I use both the phone and the "Turn-by-Turn" directions, since I don't have a cell phone or a GPS system.

I got my YD used almost 2 years ago, so I never had Onstar activated. But I decided to push the Blue Onstar button last weekend for the first time because I was bored. They gave me 3 months free to try it out... so I figured, why not? And 130 minutes for $15, so I threw that on there as well so I could really see how well the phone worked.

We'll see how it goes, but I doubt I'll keep it at the current rates unless they give me a nice discount.

I use the phone feature more than onstar it is a much safer alternative to the reg. cell phone. however you cant have the phone without active onstar, and yes once you pay for air time it is yours til used up unless you dont renew onstar then all is lost,as i am told by operator, my only bitch is that i have cigular cell and truck uses verizon carrier. They tell me that if I switch to verizon I can share time between cell and truck. seems like some smart guy could seperate cell from onstar! besides the only real thing they have done for me is vehicle diagnosis from afar. Big deal

I have used my onstar numerous time of unlocking my doors and for the online diagnostics. Yes I'm pretty sure your minutes transfer over when you renew your contract.

Yeah, Verizon is the only carrier and you have to pay like $10 a month to have shared minutes, its like adding a line on a family plan.

Does any body know if they let you carry over you're phone minutes if you renew your subscription? :D

Yes.

I really like the turn by turn directions that came with the onstar. I have used it several times and it is pretty accurate. I was in a town that I had never been in, pushed the onstar button and asked where a sporting goods store might be and within 30 seconds, the directions to the local Gander Mountain were sent to my truck. More money gone

When I looked at cars a in 2004 for my wife, we looked at a Saab with OnStar.

The dealer said that almost no one elects to keep the service after the trial period, and they were even considering dropping it. That was 3 years ago...

I think it's a well executed set of gadgetry, but for $28 a month? Yeah diagnostics are neat, but you can get a scanner and get those. Yeah, turn by turn is neat, but I already have that on my cell.

I guess my gripe is the price. I'd keep it for $15, but $28 is really steep. The $10 service seems pretty castrated.

I'm a computer geek, I appreciate what a great implementation, but it's really just fluff.

I have a year left for them to change my mind :D

Yes.

I renewed my Onstar, but did not buy any more minutes. I got 30 mins free with the truck and bought an extra 100 minutes for a discounted price of $15 when I bought the truck and they ALL expired after my initial 1st year of Onstar expired. I used like 10 mins of the 130 I had and the remaining 120 mins are now gone.

I have had my truck for a year already, I bought it July 4th 2007. And since new I haven't really used Onstar, only time I used was when they setup Onstar at the dealer. I also used the 30 minutes of free calls and it is pretty cool. But, IMO Onstar ain't worth it, mine already expired and I don't plan renewing it.
