Nbs 2500

Was just curious if anyone has had the opportunity with their NBS 2500 go up against a new Ford or Dodge at a light and if the 2500 still is king? "Gassers vs gassers". And "Diesels vs Diesels".

I never got around to test driving a NBS yet, but have seen their spec sheet and now are rated at 367 horses. I've personally taken new Fords off the line more times then I can count, even after Ford has caught up with horsepower with my year. Only took Ford 5 years!!!

Check out this great article: http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/2007/shoo...dshootout1.html

And my personal, ahem, rural road dragstrip experience pretty much backs up what that there article says, at least about the gas 3/4 tons.

Gas 3/4 tons @ stock ratios: GM (6.0L/auto 6 spd) can dust Ford (V10/auto 5 spd) & Dodge (Hemi V8/auto 5 spd) at pretty much all timed runs - 0-60, 0-1/4 mile, empty and towing. GM advantage widens above 60mph. Article shows a 07 Sierra 2500HD 6.0L gas doing 0-60 in 8.6 sec. which I reckon is about right. Ford trails both, even with the V10 (but weighs much more). I love the F-250 owners who think they're all that yet when they floor it, they can't keep up.

Diesel 1 tons @ stock ratios: GM and Dodge are mostly head-to-head and go back and forth based on speed, distance and load. Ford trails both once again.

PS the GM gas 6.0L V8 has 353 HP in the 2500HD, not 367. The 367 is the HP of the 1500's version of the 6.0L in the "Max Trailering" option package or whatever they call it. I done read that the 2500's is tuned with a broader torque curve whereas the 1500's version has uses higher RPMs to get higher peak HP.

I looked at the charts, and it appears to me the GM truck was coming in last in the empty bed test "Meaning the other trucks were quicker in acceleration by a hair". I think there would be a much different outcome if 4:10's were on the GM truck. I heard about how the NBS paired with 3:73's and getting on the gas on highway speeds is sluggish. I persoanlly haven't test drove one of the NBS trucks so I couldn' t make an accurate judgement. One of my brother in laws has same year 2500 as mine, same engine, gears, body style, drive train, and test drove a NBS and he also said it felt like it had less power. Most likely is the final gear ratio.

Havnt been racing other trucks but my 07 6.0 6sp .373's wails when I stomp on it. I cant believe the way it sounds. It has the sound of an motor with head work and a cam. It builds revs quik as hell and I havnt had anyone I wanted to beat, car or truck get out in front, but one. I have the 245 16's so really wheel spin is an issue. I did get beat by some kind of Audi at a light in the rain. I just kept it at the edge of wheel spin, and it was close but he got to the lane ends sign first. Not by much and I'm sure he had all wheel drive. I was thinking I should have put her into 4x4 but it wasnt worth breaking anything over. I am over 50 ya know. When I was a kid we always raced at the lights. It was just fun. It seems today alot of people are pissed off. They race just to get in front and then slow way down to pull your chain. I dont know. I always have a big smile. win loose or draw.

Kodiak, I had the same problem - between 25/30 and 60 mph, I had to press down at least 3/4 of the way to get 'er to downshift. Then it downshifted two gears and threw me back in the seat. There is a TSB for this condition. I had an ECU flash and all is fine with the throttle now - it's real quick to downshift. The only tradeoff is, the shifting smoothness especially between 1st and 2nd isn't quite as silky smooth. Still pretty good though.

And Mike2500HD, heck yeah I love the sound too... Even with the 265x17's spin is an issue...GM advertises the 17" tires as "AT" but they are Bridgestone Duravis, which are all seasons. Good tires though... I was kinda ticked when I took delivery because I was expecting something a little chunkier. Random comment but yeah I find the drivers lately all have something up their butts. Especially here in Houston. Heck drivers here are worse than in the Northeast. Ain't a fun commute trust me... but it is fun to race their scrawny 4-cyl Accord butts and dust 'em.

NJ has the worst drivers around, espeically when you get caught behind some idiot driving an inferior POS Toyota. Everytime I encounter traffic on the highway, 80% of the time it's some idiot driving a POS toyota. Then you have the light weights that drive Honda civics and have these shiny coffee can mufflers that sound horrible. Most of them actually believe their economy car is fast and can beat anything on the road, when all it takes is a slight tap on the gas at a light and their economy car struggles to keep up, then when you just plain out floor it you see them drop further and further away in the rear view.

But what i really find annoying is when some idiot in a inferior Toyota likes to squeeze in between you and the car in front of you on the highway, I guess it makes the inferior toyota owner fell better about themselve by being in front of a GM truck. Either that of I guess they have a death wish, because if an accident where to occur, their POS inferior Toyota would be reduced back into it's orinal form "a sardine can"..

Heres something you might find funny. I found numerous GM dealers doing tug-of-war videos on the internet, even knew a dealership nearby that also held an event. What would happen is a non GM owner was eligible to bring in their truck, and they would a GM truck to it and see who had the best power. Well the GM trucks came out on top, in all their classes of trucks. From 1/2 tons to 3/4, equally matched. What I really found extremely hilarious was the Tundra being pulled like a radio flyer childrens wagon behind the Silverado.

Anyway this one Toyota dealership did the same thing, and in the video it clearly shows that both drivers of each perspective truck were Toyota employess. Anyway, Toyota perfomred a false truck pull and tried to make their Tundra look superior. There was a few videos I saw about a year ago or so. In one video I even thinked Toyota went as low as putting the E brake on a GM truck, just like their erastz commericials that aired last year, and the stupid lies they told. I've beaten about 6 or 8 of these Tundras at lights and gunning it inclines on the highway and everytime I came out on top. Only truck that ever gave me a run for my monwy in my class was a dodge 2500 equipped with with a Hemi that also had a super charger on it, plus my AC was running. Also I even out performed a Tundra going up a hill when I was pulling my 12 ft trailer loaded with my eqiupment. The fool wanted to pass me "Illegally" I might add, and I sped up and he wasn't able to pass me. One of my buddies has a Toyota T-100 which we use as a target in his feild. It had a blown head on it and he acquired the truck as a junk vehicle and then decided it wasn't worth fixing, but makes one hell of a target!

The only vehicle Toyota ever made that had decent power was their Supra, then that later died out because it got too expensive and was over priced. One of my old friends had a twin turbo supra back in the late 80's, other then that I am anti-Toyota. #1 auto maker my @@@ . Ony reason they became #1 was because they mass produce cheap vehicles that just past standard in quality IMO. I don't remember how many times in the past where I've seen Japanese vehicles rust in the same places as other models did. I wasn't born yet when Pearl Harbor was bombed, but I certainly will NEVER forget.

I remember back in 03 "When I was a Ford f250 guy" I said GM trucks were over priced, well later I found out there was a reason why they cost what they did, because they are simply a quailty made truck. I would've gladly paid $37k plus if I knew what I did now. GM trucks came standard with SS exhaust then, and it wasn't even an option with Ford trucks. 4:10's came standard "so I've learned" with GM trucks, and not to mention the huge HP lead GM had over ford. I can't wait until I hit the 10 year mark with my truck and see how it runs and performs at that age. I knew at 10 years of age with my F250 it got to a point where I can no longer trust it. I fell victim to (Found on road dead sydrome) about 3 times in an 8 month time frame. One time I broken down with over 5 tons of gravel which I had to shovel out by hand into my other truck before it could be towed, was not happy that day.

I would agree my 6.0/6 spd with the 3.73 will absolutely throw me back into my seat and take off like a bat out of hell. As you mentioned the only issue they have is traction. It does very well in spite of all the TM, which is why I don't find a need to take it off.

I don't get it on it often but when I need it it is there.

I wouldn't but too much stock in those magazine surveys - they probably use brand new vehicles. The LSx motors make more power once fully broken in (5k-12k miles).

The stock wheels to me are like car tires, they don't offer much traction at all for my use. When you get a set of BFG's AT you'll get better traction and hardly any wheel spin on dry pavement. Ofcoarse you'll still have some tire spin on wet pavement, but not nearly as enough like the stock tires do on wet pavement. All the automakers like to use soft tires so that the ride is nice and smooth. When you upgrade to a bigger size and heavier tire you will notice that the truck doesn't seem as powerful cause the wheels aren't light like the stock wheels. I think BFG's AT or similar tires with tread & load pattern are much better, for one you won't need the use of four wheel drive in certain conditions that you would normally with the stock tires, even snow plowing at times I can plow in 2 wheel drive and still have decent traction.

I think you're right... I could make some more comments about bad drivers but they'd most likely offend some people on here.

As for 'Yotas, I had an '04 Tacoma before upgrading to this here 2500HD. Man, I loved that truck. It was solid as a rock (this was the last model year before the redesign to current). Granted, it was kind of a dog performance-wise, but it kicked serious butt off-roading. Not one problem over 3.5 years and 60K miles. I'd still have it today if I didn't need somethin bigger. Personally, I wouldn't buy ANY Toyota today - their quality has gone into the sh**ter... look at the Camrys with defective auto trannies, new Tundras with many driveline issues, etc.

And yea, I plan to get either BFG ATs or ProComp M/Ts (what I had on my Tacoma) and a lil lift when and if I have extra cash. I also want to get a cat-back exhaust, but last time I looked, none had been released yet for the 07+ 6.0L 2500s.

So anyhow, here's to pissing off Toyota drivers and makin them feel skeerd if they cut us off. Can you say, large grille in their rearview? <EG>

Some after market exhaust companies actually look for people that have new trucks and give you a free exhaust. How it works is, they use your truck as sort of a lab rat, and build an exhaust to fit it, in return you get the exhaust for free. The only down side, is I think you have to live in certain states to get the exhaust or something. I know Gibson was looking for NBS GM trucks last I checked their web site.
