Replacing Front Brake Pads.

Recommended Posts

I am tired of the GMT900's squealing brakes. I have had this squealing since 500 miles. I had the dealer put on an insulator and chamfer per some TSB or something - not much better. Therefore, I am going to replace just the pads and see what that gets me.

I am thinking on getting some high quality ceramic or similar. What brand and type are some of you guys recommending? I read that carquest has a good line of raybestos and some big name brand (can't remember the name) ceramics...these any good? I would rather not have to order, but just go pick up at one of my many local auto stores. thanks. :dunno:

On my V-Max front brakes I am currently running some Duralast brake pads and they brake pretty good and they are quiet. I had Raybesto brakes on my 2006 Silverado and they were also good but they threw more brake dust than my Duralast pads.

Brandon,

I work for CARQUEST and try not to do a lot of "sellin" on here but I will offer some info on the 2 lines you asked about. Raybestos is our primary supplier and they provide us with our economy pads and our mid grade Blue Series. They are offered in Metallic and Ceramic. (BMD or BCD). We have recently moved away from Raybestos on our Premium gold pads and they are now supplied to us by Akebono. (PCD is the Prefix).

The BCD Blue Ceramics will serve you well and are great pads. However, you would find the Akebonos to be offer less NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), would have less dusting and would offer a longer life. If you decide on the Akebono pads, be sure the store you are dealing with has made the change. He may still have his Gold series premium pads in Raybestos (GCD Prefix). If this is the case, I am sure he could get the Akebono pads overnight.

Both sets are "Guaranteed Quiet" as long as the job is done correctly.

Let me know if I can help.

Yes Sir...I have seen all of them, but if you notice none of the topics concern a GMT900. Thats why I posted....to see what, if any, new or different info might be for the new trucks.

However, probably no different information from the posts I read.

Just trying to double check myself.

I was talking to a guy at STILLEN on a set of replacement Cross Drilled Rotors and a new set of pads and he was telling me about Hawks new LTS pad (light truck & SUV) which is their new compound specially formulated for…

that’s right you guessed it Light trucks & SUV’s.

After I read up on them on their website http://www.hawkperformance.com/truck/lts.php that’s the direction I am going.
