Brake Question

My 03 Silverado has 85,000 miles on it and is going into the shop for new brake pads. I am assuming that since it has disc brakes all around, all that will need to be replaced are the brake pads. My dad, who's not the most knowledgeable person in the automotive field keeps mentioning something about the rotors. At 85,000 miles I don't think there would be enough wear to have to replace rotors. Can anybody confirm this for me?

Plan on rotors, your Dad is right. Especially the rear rotors, I can pretty much guarantee you they will be rust pitted/grooved.

just depends on how hard the brakes have been used... rust etc doesnt matter... you can cut the rotors to a brand new metal surface. now they have to make sure they dont cut past the minimum spec on the rotor.... i always check rotors with a micrometer before i turn em at work... usually i charge new rotors for the jobs with over 100000 miles.. jsut easier to slap new ones on.

When my 2000 was about 5 yrs old (in 2005) with about 65K miles on it, the rear rotors were rusted so bad (grooves and pits) you would have needed to cut about .100" off to get rid of them. There was only about 50% of the surface area left without rust pits/grooves. The fronts were pitted, but not as bad, but they were still beyond salvaging with turning. Keep in mind I live in MN, land of 10,000 lbs of salt per mile. :sigh:

So that's why! :fume:

Hey, can you tell me how many outs there are??? :sigh:

From what I have seen, there is no rust on the rotors. The truck has always been garage kept. About how much do new rotors cost anyways?

Back in 2005, my 4 wheel brake job, with rotors cost me about $650 total.

I love when the Twinkies come to town... :sigh:

I'm glad the Yanks scored more runs after that, I woulda felt bad if they only won with those 2.

You can get the brooms out anytime the Twins go to Yankee Stadium. They can't win there, plain and simple. It's gotten so bad, that it has now become psychological. I bet they could dress little leaguers in Yankee uniforms and they would still lose.
