3.6l, Could It Find Its Way Into Gm Trucks?

I read through the released information on the 2010 Camaro and noticed GM now/will have a 300 HP/273 ft lb......V6!! those numbers are nearly as good 5.3L, and it comes from 3.6L of displacement. I think towing would be an issue, but most people don't tow enough for this to be a concern.

with gas prices as they are, and the sales of trucks dwindling, could GM put this powerplant into their fullsize rigs to make them more "economical"?

could this little engine net enough improvement in MPGs to tip your interest? say 25 MPG highway???

its only a matter of time untill it is a engine choice even with reduced towing when gas hits $5.00 a gallon more people will opt for the v6 over the v8... also the 3.6 and the 4.8 have about the same power anyway so i would go for the v6

Peak HQ/TQ numbers are useless for comparing two engines, you need dyno graphs. I guarantee that the V6 does not make that much power until high up into RPM range. It would be useless as a truck engine.

I agree with Kyle on this one. I would only destroy a v6. I haul heavy loads almost daily and need the power of a v8. I do know that GM has already used the 4.3 in full size pick ups, but I wouldn't trust it to do what I need out of an engine. jmo

Like Kyle said, thats peak horsepower and its most likely very high in the RPM range. It probably has very little in the low end... Therefore, it would have to work so hard to get up to speed that it would probably get around the same gas mileage as a V8 anyway.

I would never,ever even consider a full-size truck with a V6 in it.

Does anyone think the 4.3L would go away? I sure hope not. It's my favorite GM engine.

Haven't heard anything about them dropping it yet,It is old though...been out since '85.

It is a damn good V6 engine,I had two of them in S10's,One in my '91,and one in my '94 ZR2.

Me neither, that way I do it, I always try to get the bigger engine available.

Wow, has it been that long, Rich? For some reason I had it stuck in my mind it was around '88-'89.

That is definitely a long run for an engine these days...

Yep,First available in the '85 C/K trucks, and the "new-for-'85" Astro/Safari mini-vans as a carbureted engine,Then in mid-'88 on the S10/S15 trucks (Of course with fuel injection by then)

Oh and don't forget,It was also available as a diesel engine in some of GM's front-drive "A" body cars!!!

Gotcha...I always remember it being TBI, that is why I was thinking 88-89

I say "sure, why not"

I agree.

If high fuel costs result in a lighter truck, the V6 would be a natural engine for it. Many modern V6 engines make a lot of power. Although my gut says no way, before I said NO, I'd want to drive one.

Never know what next year holds at this point.
