sound dampening

I'm not sure if this fits better in the general section or the audio section.  I'm interested sometime in the future of installing Dynamat or some other type of sound dampening material.  This is mainly to decrease road/wind noise.  Has anyone used these?  Does adding this 1/4 - 3/8 inch material to your floor, pillars, ceiling etc mean that you need new fasteners that are longer?  Is there anything I should look out for and avoid?  Thanks

There are alternatives to the actual 'dynamat', that are generally a LOT less expensive.  It is good stuff, but overpriced.  I'm drawing a blank right now for some of the other product names, tho, so that isn't much help......  :sigh:

I'll post back when I remember some of the other names....

here's a few clips I took from another board I frequent:

There were many recommendations for this:

www.b-quiet.com,

Sold outta Canada or something, but really good pricing ( I would suppose, what with their dollar vs ours ;) )

one direct quote:

"Following someone elses suggestion from this board, I went to my local Lowe's Hardware.

I came up with Peel & Seal, Made by CPI.

I put it side by side with Dynamat and it is virtually identical. 6" x 25' for $12.00"

...and another:

"Dynamat extreme is good stuff, but you can also pick up the exct same stuff at Home Depot in the roofing section for fixing leaks. Usualy in 6" wide rolls 16' long for $11.29. Cut it into strips and have about a half inch gap in between strips."

So, do your research before throwing down the $$$ for Dynamat.  I don't think that it is going to be thick enough to cause you problems, it's more like 1/8" thick by itself.  But I don't know about having to change any fasteners, I wouldn't think it would be necessary, but I'm NOT speaking from experience on that one.

Good luck with your project!

You shouldn't have any fastener problems, just avoid going over the bolt on locations.  Everywhere in the truck there is enough extra room to allow for the dynamat or whatever you choose.  I think I'll have to stop at home depot this weekend.  May have to soundproof the truck.  50 bucks sounds a lot better than the 200 or so dynamat would cost
