6.5l 250hp 2010 Diesel

I own a 2008 gmc serria with a 5.3 in it, and it is a dog for the hp rating it has. It gets alright milage......but with that high hp and no tire smoking put you in your seat power with the drive by wire throttle its no wonder truck sales are hurting with rising gas prices.

In canada our prices are almost 6 dollars a us gallon, and gm has stopped leasing to save money here in canada, but it screws over customers. Now closing down truck factorys and talk of killing gmc. This is getting rediculous, mass amounts of people are loosing jobs.

Any one that had or has a 6.5 gm diesel truck has about 500,000 km on them or more with no more than a tranny rebuild and new fuel pump and get around 30mpg. Now gm is releasing a new 4.5L diesel engine that gets 20mpg.....who cares, that is not a breakthrew! How about a new 6.5L diesel engine that puts out 250 hp and 450 torque or so... and gets 30-35 mpg! Still offer the gas guzzling motors for people who think there trucks are cars.........and offer a engine that can tow and haul which a truck was intended for and use minimal fuel doing it.

I personaly am a person who drives their truck like its a camaro....but I like driving a truck. The security in a crash, sitting up high, able to haul anything I need. I would rather have a slow truck (seeing my 300+hp truck isnt that fast as it is) and gets way better milage. A line up of gmc acadia suts might save the truck...but a tiny box and a v6 isnt going to cut it, unless im wrong and everyone will trade their trucks for gm ridgelines.

I think what he is saying is that they could probably build a 30-35 mpg diesel if they are pushing 250 hp out of it instead of 400 these days.

You know a computer tune will give you the 300hp that GM promised. They make a big difference vs stock.

+1 and personally for the size of these GTM900 I don't think it's that slow of a vehicle.

If your unhappy with your trucks performance, just tune it get rid of the delay and all that TM and gain a couple of hp & torque. I wouldn't expect good gas mileage from a truck, if u want good gas mileage just get a cars that doesn't waste a lot of gas.

I don't know anybody who gets that kind of mileage out of their diesel.

My dad had an '86 crew cab dually that pulled off 20mpg - on an old 4-speed manual. If he'd had an overdrive gear he probably could have hit 25. 30mpg from a diesel should be more than possible in a truck, and would have happened if the 6.2 hadn't been such a POS engine except the mileage.

Wish I'd have kept my 1995 6.5 Diesel. Not that I don't like my 05' silvy but I do miss that grumbly clatter, turbo whistle, and throaty exhaust that thing had. Not to mention the gobs of torque it had to climb hills and what not. With the factory tires (not shown below) and factory computer chip, I could get 24-25 mpg (imperial gallons) or about 20.5 mpg (US gallons) with it on the highway.

It cleaned up well too...

Yeah I have yet to see a GM diesel get over 25 babying it until no end. No way they are getting 30+ unless they are idling and having other trucks drag them. No way.

The idea is that they COULD. And it wouldn't hurt the truck all that much. It certainly wouldn't make a diesel (especially a turbo'd one) labor very hard to gear it up some and squeeze a bit more mileage out of 'em.

My dad's old '86 could have hit 25 with an overdrive gear. Probably could have been close to 30 if it'd had 3.60 or 3.55 gears instead of 3.73's. It wouldn't have hurt its towing capacity much either, especially if he'd turbo'd it.

His new Ford F-450 could get better than 12 if it didn't have 4.30 gears in it. And if he could keep his foot outta the turbo. But it'll stomp all over pretty much anything else.
