i am getting ready to buy my dads old 2006 silverado 1500 v6 off of him... i will be pulling a 3800 (ish) pound stump grinder CONSTANTLY.

what can i do to provide more horsepower so that it does not struggle as much. my dad has pulled his stump grinder with this truck for a couple of years, and it doesnt struggle too much, but you can tell that it works to pull it. should i change exhaust, intake, add performance chips, etc???? and if so, what ones???

thanks for your time!!!

Thats about right. If you have the cash and you want to take it a step further, think about regearing the rear end for more low end torque (not sure what your current gears are though)

uhh please if you change the exhaust, don't make it loud and annoying.

hahaha... not my style... i dont want all that.. i wanna keep the truck as a truck... i dont wanna lift it, lower it, make it extra loud, hop with hydrolics, or any other nonsense... this is my bread and butter... the sole purpose is to pull my stump grinder so i can make a living. i'm willing to change the exhaust, intake, add chips or whatever i need to do to increase horsepower, get better mpg, or what not to basically give me a better day working lol.

The intake and exhaust will help the truck breath alot better. the custom tune will reduce any nannies in the truck and it will clean up the transmission shifts to the point where there is less slippage, thus increasing the service life. If I had to do it, I would do magnaflow exhaust (Catback), magnaflow high flow cats and your choice of headers. I would do K&N for the intake and Black Bear for the custom tune (with the scan wire). These are my personal preferences, but others will differ.

thanks for the welcome...

what about a performance chip of some sort.. do those things actually work??? if so, what ones would you guys recommend and what do you think it would do???

welcome to the forum. i have basically the same truck but it is a 07 classic with the v6 as well. the blackbear is a custom tune and it is far superior to a hand held tune or a chip. they dont really do much. what gears are in the truck right now?

what he said...

black bear takes the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) and customizes the settings on it. it is most effective with the scan cable because it reads information specific to your truck. you would be required to replace it (PCM which is the brain of the truck). That is far superior to any chip/handheld because it is specific to your truck. Chips are really just add ons to the current brain configuration (PCM)

thanks crazy... let me tell all of you this... i have a mechanical RETARD lol. i'm trying to learn as i go. first of all, when you guys say a custom tune, does that mean tune up with better plugs and wires, etc? on that note, i have NO CLUE what gears the truck is in.

i have just chosen this profession as of april. i have been in offices and ran a couple of other businesses that dealt with music. i have learned alot about so far, but like i said, i'm still not the brightest when it comes to mechanics lol

thakns for the patience!!!!!

That is cool, perhaps we can 'convince' you to be the guiney pig on your truck and its modifications.
