Trans Oil Pan Bolt Torques

I have a 1999 GMC Suburban 2500 4x4 with a 7.4L engine and want to change out the transmission filter. I bought a kit from Autozone and there's a yellow sheet in it that says first tighten to 80 inch pounds and finish with 120 inch pounds. Problem is, that sheet seems to be a generic type sheet. Before I start on this I want to confirm that those values are accurate.

Does anyone have experience doing this? Can you tell me what the torque specs are for this specific vehicle? Is the above information right?

Also, is there anything special I should know about doing this? I've never changed the trans filter in this truck before.

Oh yeah, this is a 4L80E trans, not the 4L60E that has been captured in the tech wiki section (RPO MT1 code). Vehicle has 151,000 miles on it, never changed it before. Am I gonna have any issues with new fluid/filter at this late date?

4L80E oil pan to transmission case bolts 18ft/lbs or 24Nm

This is right out of the Gm service manual...

Prett straight forward, reomove pan ( probly gonna get some oil spilt on yah, just a fact of life, no oil drain!) filter can simply be "pulled" from bottom trans, you`ll probly wanna change the o-ring that holds the filter in (if it came with one) use a hook pic and it will come out easily. Install o-ring on new filter press into position ( when the pan is on the filter is held in by the pan) you can clean and re-use your tranny gasket ( should be rubber with imbedded metal frame), ayways when your all together you can put about 5 litres or 5.28 US quarts. that way your pretty close to full and can start her up hold the brake and shift it through all the gears then back to park and check or top up your level. Good luck!

If your interested i`ve installed a B&M deep sump pan on my truck, holds extra 3 quarts, works well AND has a drain!

Thanks CDOG!! Much appreciated. I changed it out, kept the original gasket but didn't change out the o-ring... I hope that doesn't get me in trouble.

How much did the B&M cost you? And how much clearance do you lose with that 3 extra quarts?

Oh, my sump does have a drain plug but after reading here, I didn't mess with it. Besides when looking at it from the inside, there is a great big weld nut on the inside... probably 3/8 to 1/2 inch high. Even if I had pulled the plug, there would have been that much trans fluid staying in the sump... what a stupid design.

i think 175? its from summit racing, it extends only as low as the exhaust crossover sits, still not lower than anything else... yeah don`t worry about the o-ring if you checked it out good and it didn`t come apart or have scratches in it it will be fine... I FORGOT that i did have a drain plug in the original pan but it was seized anyways...
