Weatherpack Connectors - Worth The Effort

Minor project here. I decided make the driving lights easier to remove from the gg .

 

Ending up adding weatherproof connectors to the exterior wiring of the Black magic driving lights. These lights would have to be taken apart to remove them from the wiring on the truck. I also got rid of the generic plastic ribbed wire loom and replaced the loom on the entire wiring harness with black PET braided sleeving with heat shrink tube for a nice factory finish.

 

I ordered the WeatherPacks online, it's confusing which sizes in the parts you actually need. You also need a special crimping tool, which I also had to buy, figuring it would it would be easier in the long run, I bought the cheapest one I could find at $29, some are over $100.

 

It took some getting used to and figuring out which slot to use for crimping the terminal onto the wire/silicone seal. Once I figured it out, it wasn't to bad. I installed the shroud/tower closer to the driving light so they would be less visible. I'm happy with how they look, I don't mind them at all, I think they look industrial/factory.

I never knew they existed, or that they were available, until I did some research. I'm a big fan now though.

Yeah as long as you have the right crimpers, it is great. It's a pain in the ass trying to get the seal crimped on and not squish the hell out of it with ghetto pliers

I wasted like 4 terminals before I figured out which slot to use. I ended up soldering it too cause I didn't trust my half-ass crimps on some of them.

 

Then when I was done, I had no confidence in my job and tried to turn them on and nothing happaned. I was like oh snap..wtf! Didn't realize I never had my headlights on... They are tapped into my lowbeams, so they won't work when they're off. Duh!

Thanks Zembonez, too bad the texutre of the LineX isn't quite as uniform as I would like. Could've been done better, but I hear round tube is really tricky/hard to spray evenly?
