Yukon Will Not Enter Programming Mode For Door Locks

I bought a new keyless remote for my 1998 GMC Yukon, and went to program it the normal way: Hold unlock button, turn ignition on/off on/off, ...but my door locks did NOT cycle to indicate programming mode was working. Needless to say, my new remote did not get added.

Have not found anything anywhere on this.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,

Where did you get that proceedure it's a new one on me. Take a jumper wire and jump pins 4 and 8 on the data link connector. Incase you don't know the data link connector is where you would plug a scan tool in under the dash. There are two rows on the connector it should be the top row count over 4 pins holes from the left and 8 holes from the left. Once you jump these with the key on the door locks should cycle to tell you that it's in programming mode and you'll hold the lock and unlock buttons till the locks cycle again, hold lock and unlock on the second remote if you have one and wait for the cycle again. Turn the key off, remove your jumper and you're done.

EDIT: IF YOU CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHICH PINS ARE 4 AND 8 DO NOT EXPERIMENT, COME BACK AND ASK. The connector has a power, a couple grounds and the rest are communication circuits for the various computers. Jumping the wrong pins and applying power or ground to the wrong pin can kill computers and cost you lots of $$$.

Thanks, Sparkstech.

I did find that jumper wire solution online somewhere. But, I have used the procedure I outlined above on two past remotes. It is online in several sites. (I guess the remotes wear out after a time.) I was just annoyed my Yukon did not respond this time, and that, maybe, the last remote I had was not really the problem; maybe the mechanisms in the remote system in the Yukon are the real problem.

But, it sure would not hut to try the jumper wire method too.

Thanks,
