Help With Outside Air Temperature On Rear View Mirror.. Not Working

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I have a 2005 Chevy Suburban, and it has the outside air temperature indicator on the rear view mirror. It reads "0 C" all the time. I also havea 2004 suburban with the same set up and it works just fine. I swapped mirrors from the 2004 and it still read "0C " and I also swapped out the little sensor that plugs onto the radiator support and still to no avail. When I put the sensor from the 05 which doesn't work, my mirror in my 2004 worked just fine... so I really don't know where to go from here

any help would be great

thanks

It doesn't read 0 c as in zero celcius, it reads OC as in open circuit. If you already swapped out the sensor and the mirror the only option left is an open wire. How comfortable are you trying to chase one down? You might have to rip into some stuff.

when i wired up my mirror... swapped a 03 mirror into a 97...

i forgot to plug the sensor in and it read OC but after i plugged it in it has worked perfect ever since...

i has to be a bare wire.. they are very tiny wires... at least 16 gauge if not smaller.... i would start looking.. and btw the 2 wires that go into the sensor run all they way up to the mirror...

If by this you mean that there is no connectors in this circuit thats not correct for his truck. There are three or four connections in this circuit.

on the 03 mirror there was only 2 wires in the sensor and the two wires matched up in the mirror wire harness.

i connected them and works perfect... so that is what i went off of...

What sparkstech is saying is that the factory wiring harness is not 2 continuous lengths of wire running from point A to point B. There are several connectors inbetween point A and point B that could also play a part when it comes to chasing down an open circuit.

Hey Guys, thanks alot, that is really helpful information... That makes sense now that you say that about the open circuit... I will look into it.. I should be able to figure it out, I didn't notice any wires busted when I rebuilt the front end, but it definately could be a broken wire, because it was in a front end collision

thanks again
