Will A Pf-61

[98 Z71 SLT]

Have a couple PF-61's laying around, and I also have my 08 Sierra 5.3 needing it's 1st oil change.

 

Will these work, instead of using a PF-48??

 

Anything to watch out for?? Don't the 61's have the drain-back valve, just like the 48's??

 

Clearance...still ok using a 61??

 

I asked around at the dealership...of course...nobody has tried this...

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think they'll work,I think the thread size is different,I'd make sure you have a PF48 "standing by" just in case.

PF61 is standard thread, a longer version of PF46. It would work fine on a Gen III.

PF-46 or PF-61 will not work on an 08, as MS3DALE posted the threads are different.

I do not mean for this to sound like a smart a$$ in anyway but it appears you are a GM Tech working at a Dealership. Your Parts Mgr will not swap the PF 61s out for you? I would never suggest using anything other than the cataloged filter on your truck. In this case the threads are different and it would likely not screw on very far. But you also have other factors to consider. Anti Drain back Valves, gasket dia and thickness and even burst pres.

 

A few years ago, I was trying to find a longer filter to fit my Caravan and was talking with an engineer at Wix. He quickly cautioned me on attempting this and explained possible internal differences.
