One year and 17 days after it fell. Now that is impressive. They originally estimated it to take about 2+ years.

That is fast, hopefully they didnt cut any corners. I m lookin forward to going across it. I think I have only been north of the city twice but hopefully I will make it up there soon and try it out.

too bad you werent on that bridge when it fell...

Unacceptable and uncalled for. Enjoy your 1 week's vacation. Come back and do it again and you can consider yourself officially retired.

Was there any memorial or anything built on the new bridge?

I know there is going to be, I am not sure if it's done yet. The priority was getting it completed asap. They had a pretty cool procession this morning when it opened. They had all of the fire trucks and rescue squads that were at the scene lead the way.

That's definitely cool. If and when you get more info or pics or video, let us know.

I doubt they did cut corners on the building of it. When projects like this happen faster than normal they typically cut the red tape. It's amazing how much time bureaucracy can add to getting something accomplished. Happened in California after the Northridge earthquake a few years ago with an interchange. They built it right and ahead of schedule and the contractor got a bonus for it.

Glad its open

The new bridge is an engineering monster. Supposedly will have a 100 year life span.

I work in Saint Paul so it's a bit out of my way to use it, but I'll have to make a special trip home tomorrow night and see it. Couple extra miles out of the way.

As much as people like to rag on construction crews, it is cool when they bust their ass and get something done so quickly. I mean that is half the estimated time!

Dang, I forgot all about this happening. It's good to know that they've replaced it, and it will last. The last big bridge I've crossed was the new one they built over Charleston Harbor in SC. That was an awesome sight.
