Subtle Changes To The Tahoe

I think it looks a lot better than it did when I bought it a month ago. Sure, I haven't done anything major to it yet, but it adds up. Just a quick recap, I changed the highway tires for larger BFG AT/TAs, removed the side trim, removed the running boards, removed the Chevy and Tahoe emblems, removed the antenna, added mud flaps and a bug deflector, and today I painted the giant ugly gold bowtie symbol in the grill black. I'm still considering painting the whole grill black, but I'm sure I'll get the chrome parts of the bumpers powder coated black and maybe the wheels too.

 

Next up though will be exhaust, intake, and a custom tune from wait4me. Since I sold my other Chevy, I really miss the ability to smoke tires. ;)

 

Also coming up at some point will be a black grill guard and black fender flares. The account is a little lean right now, so one step at a time.

 

Anyway, some sort of a photo diary so far. Lots more to come.

wow, it looks really really good, the tires really make it look like a truck.... the painted bow tie is the best mod done to the truck it looks a whole lot better like that

Thanks, that bowtie really stuck out like a sore thumb after the rest of the emblems were gone.

And I definitely wouldn't paint the grille black. I'd either color match it and the bumper cap, or leave it chrome and just paint the cap. Color matched OEM flares would look good, as would clear corners.

Looks great. Any particular reason you took all that time tomask off the bowtie and paint it rather that just popping it off to paint?

Couldn't find the clips holding it on. I spent more time trying to take it out than it did to mask it.

UGH! Don't go black on the bumpers and grille on a gold truck... Red, black truck maybe but is won't go with your color at all. That grille emblem just has two nuts holding it on so removal might have been an easier way to go but I think it looks good in black. Emblems gone are an improvement.

I don't really care for the color-matched parts look, I like the black. Unless I was going for the "pretty" look. In that case I would have left the factory trim and running boards.

I went up on the mountain trails this afternoon, and now my front bumper is a little more bent than it was this morning.

 

 

I basically tipped it over onto the drivers side. I was climbing this steep hill, trying to skirt a deep washout type rivine. I started spinning and it slid a little down the rivine. I stopped, and carefully tried to pull myself up out of it but slid further. I put it in to reverse to try to inch back down, but by that time I was at such an angle that it kept sliding sideways into the crevice. When it got to the point where the right-front tire was a couple feet off the ground, and I was at such a sideways tipping angle looking straight down out my window at the other side of the crevice, I accepted the fact that I was going to tip. When it was teetering, even moving in my seat made it rock and almost finish tipping.

 

I figured that when it did tip, my only chance of getting out would be if I could climb back up the other side of the crevice. I inched backwards until it finally went over sideways, and as soon as I felt it hit I cranked the wheel to the right and gassed it. The left front tire climbed right up the other side as planned, tipping me back on all 4 wheels. Then I was able to scrape my way backwards down the slope, through the rough spot.

 

Ah, it's ok. Sure, I wish my bumper wasn't bent, but I don't regret giving that spot a try. There was one spot on the way back down that I had barely made it through on the way up where it dropped down and my left rear wheel came way off the ground and I almost went over that way. No problem though, a little gas and the tires pointed in the right direction and I was golden.

That sucks about your bumper. The painted bowtie goes good with the truck. I always love custom bowties;

What about wrapping a chain around a good size tree with a hook going on the bottom of your bumper, and go in reverse to straighten out the bumper, buddy of mine did that and fixed it.
