2500 Can Feel Every Bump.

I have a 2004 Sierra 2500 LD 4wd.

I recently got 3 Inch blocks put on the back. When I went to the Goodyear place they told me that i needed new shocks.. They told me to get "4 inch Rancho Shocks"(just on the back) So i purchased them, the truck has good flex and rides good offroad but on road it is pretty bumpy and uncomfortable. What have i done wrong?

It's the Rancho shocks. Of course it depends on which ones you had installed but I put RS5000's on all 4 corners of my pickup and the truck took corners like a camaro (no body lean at all) and drove great on 'smooth' surfaces but on any type of rough road, my kidneys were complaining. I swapped them out for Edlelbrock IAS shocks and they were the extreme opposite, way too soft. So I don't like the Rancho RS5000's or the Edelbrock IAS shocks on my truck.

I currently have Bilsteins on and they seem to be a good compromise. Not very soft, but not very harsh either.

So what would i need to do.. My front isnt leveled out yet.. so i was gonna buy a leveling kit.. so i need the shock extenders also for this with the 3 inch blocks? Is the reason that she shocks take small bumps bad because i have only switched out the back shocks? Or maybe that the blocks were 3 inch blocks and she shocks are 4 inch shocks? would this matter? Goodyear said no? but i wasnt sure..

The leveling kit will make your truck ride even worse. All it does is crank the hell out of the torsion bars. Do a search on here about torsion bar cranking, and you'll have plenty to read.

Rear blocks have no affect on ride quality. Taller or longer shocks don't affect ride quality except that they are a different shock (valving not height). For the front the leveling kit will not help ride quality, shock extenders might help regain some, but I doubt it, because the suspension looses it droop-ability.

A true suspension lift, with differential drop brackets, drop cross members, etc. It ain't cheap, there's no cheap way to lift a truck.

Well um... Take the leveling kit off?

 

A leveling kit will kill your ride, since the suspension will 'top out' whenever you go over a bump. I think Cognito has aftermarket upper control arms that will correct ball joint angles and make the ride slightly better, but you will still have horrible CV/tie rod angles. Do a search for torsion bar crank or something similar, and read up. This has ALL been covered before.

I did get the blocks in the back so i want it to be level still.. it looks stupid not leveled out.. I looked up torsion keys and all and see how it works.. What can i do to make it "level" without a leveling kit? there has got to be way i can have it level with the blocks with being able to get something to make it ride well..

Okay.. Well im going to get a leveling kit. Would u recommend getting different rear shocks? and what kind of New front shocks should i get? The front doesent drive bad.. Its just when i hit a bump.. i feel the back "Hopping" if i go over anything too fast.

You're a difficult one. It's your truck though, just don't be surprised when it rides worse than it does now...

 

And the reason you feel the back hopping, is it's a 3/4 ton truck with a heavy-ass solid axle, it's not going to ride like a caddy.

 

When you say they put a 3" block in the back, did they replace a smaller (2") block with the 3", giving you 1" of lift, or was there no block there to begin with?
