12 Bucks And I Have Piece Of Mind

I ordered the new brake light switch and installed it today. It did the trick. I can now brake and let off a little and still have brake lights! :loser:

Now my camper will not give me the jerks when I stop at a red light. :puke:

The new switch works like it should. Part Number 25991704

Be sure that is the number when you pick it up. One difference I saw was the new switch has a white plastic cover on one side where the old one was all black.

Installation is easy, just remove the screw in the middle, then push up a little on the clip. Then pry the top of the clip out enough to slide down over the rod end and it will come off. pull the brake rod off the stud just enough for the outside of the switch to clear it, not all the way off, and slip the switch up and off. Reinstall in the reverse order....

And yes, I just went and paid for it myself. 12 dollars is worth it to not have to argue with the S/M about the problem and have someone get grease on my new leather or carpet....plus the local dealer is not where I purchased it, so I was not going to trouble them about it...

Yep,I did the same thing...ordered the new switch and installed it myself,The only difference is that I can still get it covered under warranty since I work there!! :puke:

I kept the receipt, and if they do a safety recall on it, I will get reimbursed at my dealer when I go....

Yep, I've felt this too and blamed it on my "shitty brake controller". I feel better now knowing what the real problem is. :loser:

Boy... twelve bucks is worth it not to have the truck dropped off and deal with the hassle... even if the dealer is great.

I had my new switch installed today, problem not solved.

Are you SURE they used the right part number? 25991704

The difference was like night and day on mine.....I have to let up almost 1 inch on the pedal before the light will go out now....

Before, I could release 1/8th of an inch and they would go out.....

For $12 it's not really going to matter but for future repairs anyone might perform for which they think reimbursement is likely there is something to think about. If the repair was perfomed at a date/mileage that would have made the vehicle covered under factory warranty the factory may not reimburse the repair.

JUST AN EXAMPLE THERE ARE NO IMPENDING RECALLS OR PROBLEMS KNOWN TO ME ON THIS: For example if you had a transmission failure and the vehicle was still under warranty but you didn't want your dealer to replace it for whatever reason. You take the truck to your mechanic and he gets a gm trans and installs it. You pay the bill. Months later GM issues a recall on same trans and you take your reciept in, chances are your claim will be denied. In the case of the switch you are out $12 in other cases you could be out thousands. Do what you want but my suggestion is take warranty work to whomever has the authority to perform that work. If they can't keep your seat clean do some minor bitching, if they still can't take it to another dealer.

Let the bitching flame begin on how it's bull shit that we can't fix our own vehicles without having warranty reprocussions.
