Feedback On An Idea

I have been tossing around the idea of installing one of these:

The way I want to do it is to take off the tailgate edge protector, measure the whole LED strip, cut out a little more than the actual dimensions (not more than 2 millimeters bigger), mount the LED strip into the new hole in the protector. Then fill it will Automotive Sealing Silicone and mount it back to the truck. I have looked at the whole project and I could do it (no clearance issues) and all I would have to do is drill a small hole under the protector to route the wires and then fill that hole in with the same silicone. The reason I ask is because everybody here in Austin seems to have one of these mounted under the tailgate (on the bumper). I want mine to be above the taillights and I want it to only come on when I hit the brakes (No, I dont want to have it as a running light, only as an additional brake light running atop the tailgate). I could simply slap it ontop of the protector, but I want a more refined, flush appearance. Thoughts?

Was it stock for the Dodge? I was behind one the other night and thought "that's different". I don't know how I really felt about it not good not bad just, it's different.

 

It's better than what I was thinking at first. I clicked the link and thought you wanted to put ford badges on the tailgate of your truck.
