Taking The Gator Back Plunge

Recommended Posts

Hey Fellas,

Ok so I'm tired of throwing money at this only to get the same result. I've tried 2 different belts and keep ending up with the same result. If I throw my old belt back on I have no more Squeal.

If tried 2 New Dayco Polycog belts and they all still squeak. So I thought I'd take the plunge on a Gatorback.

Looks like Summit racing is the place to get it for us Canadian folks. Doesn't look like anybody in Canada stocks them or can get them in. I just wanted to make sure it was the right one.

Does this look like the right one?

Gatorback From Summit for my 99 1500

I'm pretty sure it is I just wanted to be sure...

Thanks in advance, hopefully it get's rid of this annoying squeal. New Alternator, New Tensioner and 2 new belts and I'm still not happy :dunno:

Thanks

Evan

According to their application guide it looks like it fits 99 - 05 5.3 Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe (and others). I haven't tried the gatorback belts but others in here have spoken highly of them.

Good luck!

We've used some Gatorback belts at the dealership when were out of,or don't stock, the GM ones,no issues here.

If there anything like there tires you'll be good to go,Although I'm sure some here would disagree with me :dunno:

My buddy put one on his 98 Dodge 5.2L that squealed all the time. After the Gatorback it never squeaked again.

:dunno: put a Gatorback on both my last 2 Grand Prix's, fixed both their squealing problems

What the hell are you people doing to your trucks to cause them to hvae belt squeak!? I have never ONCE had belt squealing in every one of my GM Vehicles and every one of them has gone well over 100,000+ miles, and I hvae replaced with a standard belt from Checker or NAPA.

Right on, thanks for the input guys!!!!

I have a gatorback on my Suburban, never had a problem with squeeking.

Relax mang, no need to get upset. Apparently you have never been in a Duramax truck with the dreaded "squeek on shut down", I know mine does it, even with a brand new belt. All kinds of different things can cause belt squeek, maybe you have just been lucky? :jester:

I've been using Gatorbacks for the past 17 years on all of the vehicles I've had/have.

4060922 with 105A alternator

4060930 with 130A alternator

4040377 AC belt

Autozone.com also has them, $31.99, $32.99, $19.99 resectively

I had that problem on my 2000 from the A/C belt. I could replace the belt, and it would go away for a few thousand miles, then come back again (there was nothing wrong with the compressor, although there was some rust on the pulley). It was especially bad on damp mornings or during rain. And it was LOUD! So finally I tried soaking it down with silicone spray, and it went away for the last 10,000 miles until I traded it in. :D

I've been running the Dayco Polycog belts for a year and a half w/o any squealing.....you might other issues to deal with.

Yeah I wondered that too however, when I run the Factory GM Belt that I kept spare it goes away, indefinitely. I noticed that the GM Belt's ribs are solid all the way along whereas the Dayco Polycog are not. They are almost "ribbed" shall we say.

I may go with another AC/Delco Belt just in case it too decides to squeek. I'd hate to order one through Summit then have it squeal after a period of time and have to mail it back. Plus I think it's only about a $10 difference by the time I pay for customs, shipping, and exchange!

Damn ol'loonie sliding down the slippery slope compared to the American Greenback...
