Question About Towing Mods

Hey all.

I have a 01 sierra 1500, w/5.3. I am looking at towing about 5-6,000lbs. I have an exhaust, intake, performance PCm from Jesse that I am sending back to get changed. It has the factory tow package, I am wondering if there are any other things I could do to make it reliable and mainly keep cool. I was thinking a deep trans. pan, electric fans, I allready have the mag-hytec Dif. cover s. Any Suggestions welcome. thanks

to make it reliable first of all get a derale cooling tube transmission pan. It adds 3qts of fluid capacity and cools the fluid temp by 20-30 degrees. A transgo HD shift kit for the transmission would be advisable. A word of hint make the trans shift as hard as possible. harder shifts mean less slippage in the clutches and cooler fluid. It should feel like it is going to snap your neck when shifting. Also atleast a 18,000 pound trans cooler B&M makes the supercoolers get one of them. Hope that helps. Everything I've mentioned I've done to my 4L80E in my 1 ton and my fluid temps never see 180 degrees even with my big gooseneck trailer and bobcat at 16000 pounds just in trailer weight and 24000 total with the truck. Also if you have a tune in the PCM you should be able to run a cooler thermostat like a 180 degree thermostat would benefit the engine. Hope that helps.

Air bags in the rear suspension were the best mod I made for towing. Stabalized the truck a ton.
