Gm Puts Acdelco Up For Sale

Interesting... It sounds like GM is trying to return to it's core product lines and rid itself of resource heavy subsidiaries.

I can see them next merging the Buick and Pontiac lines into one. Anyone wanna buy a Buitiac?

Buitiac or Buick just goes away. With that a lot of jobs will be lost, at the OE, suppliers, dealers, etc. Stock price at $6 looks enticing, but not sure it won't go lower. Place your bets.

Buick is actually a very productive brand. It's even been in business in China since 1926. I can see GM building a lot more multi brand / single platform vehicles in the coming years. Buick, and GMC have sold a LOT of vehicles for GM so I doubt they will croak. Rumors of Pontiac becoming the all performance brand are probably not going to come true now that the car market has taken a nose dive. I'd be surprised if Pontiac survives another 5 years unless the market comes back in a big way.

GM is trying to raise cash to buy Chrysler still. They are trying to get it done quickly, before the election.

Cerberus wants GM to take Chrysler and give full control of ailing GMAC to them. Chrysler has TONS (like billions) of assets to offer even if their product line is weak. We may well see a Chrysler under GM connection soon. it should be interesting.

You can forget all of the bullshit talk about GM and Chrysler merging lineups though. Even if GM absorbs hem, they will restructure Chrysler and let them sink or swim on their own.

I think they'll make an effort to keep the Jeep brand going but Chrysler may be fukked. :D

If the GM/Chrysler deal does go through I can see the benefits being the shared intellectual property, consolidated assest and R&D. There will be significant lineup trimmings at Chrysler with Jeep probably being the least affected. To maintain the Chrysler identity the body stylings will stay similar, but the chassis and power trains will probably be common across GM and Chrysler lines.

Obviously they would share some technology. They would be crazy not to. I doubt seriously that you would ever see any similar powertrains. There could be a real benefit at the R&D and engineering levels that both could enjoy. Cost savings galore if you use the same R&D department and split the costs between two manufacturers. If done correctly, it could drive a stake in Ford's heart... Wouldn't THAT be sad.

I realize that none of us actually knows shit about this and this is all opinion... but ain't it fun?

Delphi has been operated as a seperate company from GM since 99 or so.

It has lost MILLIONS of dollars even as it has been downsized, plants closed,

pieces sold off, a LOT of parts mfr. now done in 3rd world countries, older

employees bought out and retired, Benefits cut, Old retirement benefits cut

for all white collar workers, new employees hired at 1/2 pay, stock shares

worth pennies instead of dollars !

I hear my retired Delphi/delco uncles tales of woe weekly!
