Springy Gas Pedal Fix

Recommended Posts

I tried a search but didnt find any good results. I have an 03 Tahoe Z71 w/Drive By Wire that has a extremely touchy gas pedal. Whenever I go over any type of bump i bounce the pedal and make the RPMs jump unless I pay attention to what I am doing. Is there anyway to fix the pedal so its firmer? Replace the spring?

I don't see why you couldn't add a stiffer spring but I've honestly never known anybody to have this problem. Maybe you should go to the gym and tone those ankle muscles instead!

thanks ill get right on that...haha, you've seriously never heard of anyone having this issue? I saw it posted over at Z71Tahoe-Suburban.com but no one had a solution. It might just be because I came from a car with a really stiff pedal but it would be nice if I could stiffen this one up

I hate to say it but in my experience that's just how drive-by-wire vehicles are; you don't get the same feel or "feedback" like you get from throttle-cable pedals. You'll get used to it I'm sure.

Boy, if I still had my 99 I'd trade you! I swear sometimes I'd have to stomp the pedal before it'd even consider moving. Once it 'broke free' it was fine.

But I think you are experiencing the nature of "Drive by wire"

A new spring may give the pedal more feel, but won't do anything for actual response. But being drive by wire, throttle response to pedal pressure should be a tunable item. I think I read somewhere that it can be tuned to make the throttle response more sensitive to pedal pressure.

I heard that vmax could help you with that problem.

What does putting on a chrome pedal cover have to do with anything?

HA! You know I was kidding. Who wants bulked up ankles anyway? :jester:

I think I would look into adding a stiffer spring for resistance and see what that did. It couldn't really hurt anything and it could always be reversed.

Oh, and no, I never heard of anybody having that problem but that obviously doesn't mean it I don't believe you.
