Why So Much Noise?

Why does the interior make more noise when it gets cold out. Now thats its in the twenties, I here a bit more rattling in the dash and then it goes away when the truck warms up. It's driving me crazy.

I have noticed the same thing in mine but it hasn't been too bad yet. When I find some extra time over the weekend, I plan to locate the source and correct it. I don't have an answer as to the reason why but I have noticed the same thing many different vehicles, regardless of make.

It's hard to eliminate all possible sources of vibration due the contraction and expansion of materials because of temperature changes. The best one can really do is to try to track down the individual noises and eliminate them one by one as they appear.

Come to think of it, my Explorer company sled is pretty bad on cool mornings too. It's pretty quiet once warmed up though.

Plastics don't like cold temps. They get all creaky and brittle. Even soft vinyl will harden.

Ever get into a vehicle when it's been sitting outside all day in -30 deg temps? It's like sitting on concrete, regardless of how "cushy" your seat normally is.

And here I am impressed with how quiet my truck has been when I leave in the morning. Of course down here it hasn't been lower than 45 degrees yet at the time I leave in the morning. If its below 60 outside I'm cool. Two weeks ago me and everyone I walked past was freezing, got in my truck and the thermometer read 55 degrees. Growing up in the South makes you a wuss in cold weather. Except I guess it works both ways, Northerners come down here during the summer and melt with the triple digit temperatures.

Heck. Up here we continue to play beach volleyball till the temp dips down to about 50.

Hmm... -30 or +110? What's the humidity? I've been in Arizona at 110 and it wasn't bad, didn't want to go jogging, but it was okay. For -30, just have to wear the right clothes.
