Another Newbie (but Not To Gmc's)

I have just happened upon this forum while searching for some RPO code information for my newly acquired 2007 Sierra 2500 HD 4x4 Crew Cab with Duramax/Allison combination.

This whole new ownership thing has started out a little overwhelming because of all of the computerisms inherent in the SLT package. It had been a lease return with 35k miles in 18 months, not inappropriate in the San Francisco area given the often ridiculous commutes that happen.

I've owned a 1989 Silverado K3500 (454) since new so am not a novice to the 4x4/GM world. I had recently purchased a 10000 gvw car trailer and had to do a run to Phoenix from San Francisco over the Labor Day weekend. I was a bit surprised to find that the 454 had to really work it's a** off to get over the Tehachapi summit and other locations on route. The seating in the standard cab (even though it is Silverado trim of the era) left a bit to be desired for back comfort.

The price of gas has depressed the used truck market in California so it seemed to be a pretty good time to be in the market for a "new" truck. The initial cost wasn't too bad but I am already finding that, in typical manner, that it has only started! I need to change my hitch format from Class III to Class V. Ths SLT has electric folding mirrors while I really need extendable camper type mirrors, etc. etc. There are many other factors on the positive side obviously - comfort of the new modern seats for instance.

I've got the Helm 1989 books for the Silverado which gives all the RPO's for that time, however the equivalent publications - in CD format only now - puts a pretty good dent in checkbook. I guess what I am really after is to see exactly what I have purchased and the options I should expect to be functional.

This is also my first diesel vehicle since a 1984 Volvo I bought new -- this was a disaster vehicle....... I am assuming that US/Isuzu diesel design knowledge is several steps above that available in the early 80's.

At any rate, I'm looking forward to getting down to the nitty gritty with my new toy and sharing whatever I can with anyone who will listen.
