Abs And Brake Light Come On While Driving

I have an 01 Tahoe 4x4 which has the abs and brake light come on. Brakes work while driving. Took to dealer, was told needs a new EBCM for $1322. :( I just spent $500 replacing evap canister and vent valve, needless to say I can't afford to fork up $1300 bucks right now. My question is do you recommend the shops that advertise the repair of EBCM module. The cost is about $150 to send my module and get it repaired then sent back to me in about 2days. I am an HVACR technician so I am mechanically inclined and try to do work on my truck when I have the time. If recommended what r the pocedures for removal of module and will I need to program anything?

I thought the EBCM was part of the PCM? I guess I could be mistaken on that one.

Anyway, whenever I've seen this, it's generally been a wheel sensor that's bad, not a control module.

Whenever the EBCM is replaced for DTC C0265 or C0266, the ABS pump motor and motor circuitry must be tested for the proper resistance.

  1. <LI type=1>Disconnect from the EBCM, the ABS pump motor pigtail connector.
  2. Use a DMM in order to measure the resistance across the ABS pump motor.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

0.3-1.0 ohms

Go to Step 8

8

Use a DMM in order to measure the resistance between the high side of the pump motor and a good ground.

Does the resistance measure less than the specified value?

0L

Use the scan tool in order to perform the Tire Size Calibration procedure and the Trim Level Calibration procedure, if applicable.

Now its up to you,but you need scan tool for calibration.

Read info on sites that advertise the repair of module. It states that no calibration/programming is needed due to the module sent is the one repaired. That way no change in the program, so after repair all you need is to mount and drive. Also was noted on site that may need to clear code with scan tool. Any suggestions? Is it worth a try?

Yeah if they are charging reasonable, its a worth.

why can't they clear the codes after repairing the module?

In case if it cannot be cleared outside (some codes are hard codes even if you clear on scantool it appears in seconds) just a thought what you are going to do.what i mean here is they should repair clear the codes and sent back as good as new to you or anyone who are willing to repair modules with them.

I had the same issue with my 01 Z71. After testing ($100!) they said the part from GM would be $1000 :smash: . So I opted to remove the module and send it in for repair. The instructions said that you can remove the module by using a torx bit with a 1/4" ratchet. With my luck I got three out this way but the fourth just rounded off the torx. So I had to disconnect all the brake lines from the unit ( a pain in the a** since there was very little room to swing the wrench), then take the entire unit to the work bench. I used my drill press to drill out the stripped screw. Then followed the mailing instructions waited 4 days and put it back together with new ss sockethead screws. Reinstalled alot easier than removal and bled all the brakes. Excellent repair! Cured my problem
