Paypal/ebay Questions

I created an E-bay & Pay-pal account today because there are too many good deals to pass up. Anyways I want to strictly use just my credit card on Pay-pal, I don't want to associate my bank with this. My CC is all that I've put on Pay-pal. On my Pay-pal it says I have an unverified status, which says I haven't added and confirmed a bank account or pay-pal card. Do I have to add a bank account? If I win an auction on Ebay it will just charge my credit card thru pay-pal correct?

Nope, I haven't verified my paypal account for about 3 years, and you don't need to put a bank account on. When you win an auction, it'll send you an email, and you click the 'pay now' link in the email, and sign in to pay pal. I think that's how it goes, I've only done it a few times, but it's really self explanatory.

No problem. Don't quote me on the ebay purchasing process, but it's really not complicated, just take your time the first time you do it.

Wow... I have been on Paypal since 2004 and never had any problems with it... I do have a business account though... Before the economy crash my interest was around 5%... So if I sold something on ebay and used my Paypal credit card would get 5% cash back... right now its around 2.5%

 Will do. Hopefully I'm getting some LS1 electric fans in 3 days for a steal...not even a steal, a robbery!

Ahhhh...the evils of paypal. Remember some rules before you use Paypal. Paypal is not a bank & your money is not federally protected. You must protect yourself.

NEVER send a payment in any way other then credit card. Not a bank transfer, not an existing balance transfer, not a debit card. No other way except credit card.

By using a credit card you now have federal protection & can back charge paypal if a deal goes south. Pay any other way & you are SOL.

NEVER leave a balance in your paypal account. Empty it immediately when you receive a payment. If your account gets frozen, you may never see your money. Remember, paypal is not a bank & does not have to play fair when it comes to freezing accounts. If the money is not there, they can't freeze it.

NEVER use you normal bank account to verify. Set up a savings only account & do not keep one cent more then the minimum balance. Make sure you have no overdraft protection on this account, that way if paypal tries to pull money out, it is a dead end for them.

NEVER respond to an email from paypal, because it is likely not from paypal. If you get one, delete the email & go directly to paypal & check your messages. DO NOT CLICK THE LINK IN THE EMAIL. If the message was legit, it will be in your paypal message box.

That should get you started.

All this is why I'm using my credit card exclusively. I've read and heard too many horror stories of people using debit cards online. This is why I have my new "internet credit card", max line of $500!! Worst case scenario is I fork over $500 to Capital One and raise my credit score. :smash:

Just a forewarning, some sellers may require a verified PayPal account to be sure that it's the correct address for the credit card and not some fraudster. Most of the time I've been able to get around this, but if they won't let you, just tell them you won't be paying. Be sure to check to see if they mention needing a verified PayPal account in the listing before bidding/buying, though.

I will disagree to an extent regarding the last statement Won_Hunglo said. Hold the cursor over any links to check and see if the link at the bottom of the screen is something to the extent of "http://www.paypal.com/". If anything looks a little funky, such as second-level domain (.com._, etc.) then it's a spoof. Unless it's asking you to update information or saying your account will be locked, it's likely a real one. The stuff you get from PayPal usually is just ads asking you to use one of their PayPal cards or other promotions. I'd say they're 50/50.

I actually went out and got a credit card for one purpose, and that was Paypal and any other on-line purchases. There is no fee for the card, and if it is ever compromised, I cancel it and carry on getting a new one. I told the bank that I got from what its purpose is, and they had no problem with me canceling it at short notice. Plus they cover any on line fraud.

I have used Paypal for Ebay for several years now, and have never had a problem. One thing to be aware of is sometime I have received e-mails from someone claiming to be Paypal, asking me to verify information and change passwords. I normally forward the e-mail onto Paypal as they claim that they will never contact someone and ask them to change their account information.

If I recall, it took a long time for my credit card to be verified on Paypal, but eventually it did. Maybe it takes a certain number of transactions to be verified. Who knows?

When I signed up years ago Paypal charged the credit card with $0.05 and put a code in the description. You then go back to the Paypal site and enter that code so they know you got the bill.

Don't believe Paypals hype about guaranteeing your money. I purchased something, $24 and never got it. Went through the process with Paypal and won, but the guy didn't have any money in his account so I got nothing. It wasn't worth the hassle to go to the CC company and get it refunded.

I've use paypal and Ebay for years, never had a problem. I do get fishing emails that say they're from both all the time.

As with anything you do online, it pays to keep your eyes open and watch seller feedback ratings.

Since 1999, I have a 1090 all positive feedback rating on Ebay (go look... the name isn't hard to figure out) and a verified Paypal account since 02 that has 304 transactions on it. I've used Paypal as a seller and a buyer and usually keep a few hundred in the account just for quick Ebay money. Never had any problems. It is not linked to any bank account.

This is key. I don't see how people with 5+ bad sale transactions in the last 6 months still sell anything. Edit: unless they are a power seller who sells 2500 items in 6 months. Then I wouldn't see a few bad rep points as a big deal.

I always thought they should have a negative feed back quick tab . Just so ya dont have to search around to find what went wrong with a past auction .... Ive never had a problem with paypal or ebay in the 10yrs since I signed up . I do however have a seperate account that I only use for ebay stuff just in case :D

I've had my Pay Pal account since 2000 and never had an issue with it (touch wood). Back then PayPal made like 5 cent charge on my account with a code that appeared on my CC bill that I had to enter into my PayPal account.

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
