What Should I Do

I dropped my truck off at the dealer last night dent free. I picked it up this morning and it had a big dent in it. I did not even enter the truck or move it until the sheriff came and looked at it. The dealer is claiming anther customer hit it. I do not understand how this would not be on the dealer to cover with their insurance. To make matters worse the customer they are claiming hit was in to get service work but yet they did not repair order on his truck. I had to give out my insurance and my dl to me this does not seem right because I was not in driving nor in poession of the truck.

Do you got any pictures of the truck with the dent?

As of right now I do not. The deupty however does have pictures and I had not moved the car from the lot when he took them. He went and checked out the car they are saying hit me and the deupty said it was not that car and that he is going to talk to the dealer and get me answers. I have pictures of the truck before I took it in that show it dent free.

Sorry to hear about this. I alway's assumed that the dealership personel, were the only ones allowed to drive a vehichle in and out of the repair shop. I don't know why, but maybe they are trying to cover up their own mistake. jmo, but have the sheriff look around in the garage area. Good luck.

Yeah it was fishy because they did work on this blue dakota that they said it hit me and they did not even do a ro for it. They had to call anther repair shop that reffered the guy to them to get his name and such. Also they did not have me sign the paper saying I release them from liability to damage to the truck. They have a body shop on site I am hoping they will see the error in their ways and just fix it at their cost.

I don't know for sure about where you are but here the RO you sign when you drop off the vehicle states what they are (or are not) accepting liability for. Some states allow liability to be the full responsibility of the customer. Even IF that is the case, I'd make it plain to the dealership management that you intend to make as much noise and provide as much bad publicity as you can humanly muster if they do not offer to fix it. Don't yell at anybody. It removes your credibility.

I know I could make one hell of a stink without ever raising my voice.

They never had me sign that paper that release them from liability. I do intend on rasing as much trouble for them as I can. I mean yes it is a 1998 and its got 200k on it but I should not have to live with a dent that happened while in their control. They called the sheriff to file a report not me. The trouble is the vechile they worked on and parked next to mine did not hit as they said happened. They figured it was the owner of the truck that hit it when he picked up his car and then just ran and didn't say nothing. The sheriff looked at it on Saturday and sat it was to caked in dirt that wasnt even disturbed and no paint transfer and such. The sheriff is going to the dealer on Monday and try and get me some answers atleast that is what he told me. Here are a few before and after pictures.

My sister hit my truck in that exact same spot only on the other side where the third door was on my 98. The door never shut the same and it didn't match at the bottom. Then she never told me about so one day when I was finally washing my truck I noticed it and the red paint transfer. She didn't even try to take the red paint off and there was a big ol' spot messed up on her car. Good luck to ya!

That totally sucks that the dealer won't truthfully own up to what went on. I really hope they'll do the right thing and fix your truck up on their tab since it was in their care when it happened.

    • I know when I was looking around last year to see if someone handled Amsoil gear oil to buy at the retail level which of course means full price. I found an independent shop that works a lot on GM/Duramax pickups and they did not bring in the 75W-85 as they just stuck to the 75W-90 for the front and rear as a standard practice for the HD trucks which makes sense anyway for the higher hp/torque diesel and pulling heavy loads in four wheel drive. I haven't changed my diff oils yet but still plan on using the 75W-85 for the front diff as I highly doubt I will be beating on the truck and figured for my use type the bit thinner oil would be to my benefit for the winter for that slightly less drag. Very different weather here all winter vs northern Washington near the coast, that's for sure.
    • Ok that confirms the extra quart theme they are still going with which must mean they have noted some initial use more so then some engines and probably the bigger factor in all of this probably isn't the engine so much as its the insane distance or OLM that lulls a lot of the driving public into driving their new vehicle off the lot and not even doing one short interval oil change because the manufacturer doesn't say different and if the dealer follows that logic as well. Selling the rarely needing to be serviced concept seems to go over well with the public that wants to get away with as little as possible for dollars spent on the vehicles maintenance and I bet there are 3.0 engines just like other vehicles out there that never have their oil checked by the owner which goes back to why they probably felt the need to add that extra quart to avoid a costly theme.    Speaking of cutting filters open, it was probably over two years ago now that a youtuber who buys vehicles to do longer term reviews and pulls a fifth wheel through the mountains of Colorado on summer trips and that becomes part of the testing. Anyway he had a GM HD with the 6.6 gas and a Ford 250 with the 7.3 gas at the same time and of no surprise the Ford had more power etc but somewhere along the way in the few thousand miles he put on the truck, he changed the oil and was seeing glitter and cut open the filter and yeah, things were not looking spectacular. The truck about that time or soon after seemed down on power compared to what it had been and then threw some engine code, I expect the cam/lifters were failing and so he brought the truck back to the dealer and made some deal to get out of it as he knew it would sit for months waiting on a new engine as they were so backlogged at the time. He kept the GM for some time after that using it exclusively until he sold it after buying his next vehicle to do a review on. Definitely the filter can tell a story when things are starting to go sideways, but it would be a sickening feeling to cut it open and be faced with an ugly mess like that and be running a magnet through the pleats and the oil on the dirty side of the filter and see all the fines sticking to the magnet.    The dealer may have some ideas based on experience as to where that coolant smell is coming from, I would imagine if they can't find it but its smelling they would put dye in it to they could give it a run cycle and use the black light to see where it pops up, if its a hose connection, water pump, rad or even a head gasket etc.
    • Good looking truck, suspensionmaxx looks like a solid option
    • Thanks for the info, im considering a leveling kit or 4" lift kit.
    • charm.li (website) has the vehicle-specific diagnostic procedure for that code, you can use to find what the cause of it is.
