Cargo Management System Removal

Recommended Posts

Well, I finally made the plunge to retire my ole 2000 Extended Cab Silverado and bought a 2008 Crew Cab Z71. Prices were just too good to pass up!

Anyhow, I'm going to have a bedliner sprayed in it and was wondering how difficult it is to remove and reinstall the cargo management system. It appears it is bolted in with some kind of blind, threaded inserts or nuts of some kind. I really don't want the inserts on the side to drop down inside the bed sides. Has anyone removed their's yet? How hard is it.

Thanks!

They are basically spring loaded "Molly" bolts similar to what you use behind drywall for heavy objects.

I'm not sure how you could remove them without having them fall inside the bed but it seems they would be reachable and could be reinstalled after your spray in lining.

If it were me, I would simply tell the guy spraying in the liner to remove the CMS and reinstall it when he is done.

After all, those spray in linings are expensive enough. Let them deal with it as they have done many in the past.

I have the CMS and I just put in a GM liner designed for it. The spray in liner hinders my use of the truck. I need to be able to slip 55 gal barrels in/out or I spend to much effort wrestling with the drums because they will not slid on the spray in stuff.

The dealer said the fasteners will fall to the ground when its unbolted.

I am not fan of spray in liners. The always say bed liners cause rust but I had one in my 1992 truck up here in the salt belt for 14 yrs and there was no rust. The paint was a little rubbed but so what, the spray line liner has to have all paint removed before it applied anyway. $150 for a liner opposed to $495+ for the spray in
