1999 Suburban Needs Engine Rebuild

I need to have the 7.4L in the wifes suburban rebuilt. The last mechanic to work on it inadvertantly dropped a bolt down the intake and knocked a hole in the piston. Thankfully there was no cylinder damage and the bearings are all in great shape. When we have it torn down we'll replace all the bearings for good measure. My mechanic at work is going to go through it this winter and I'm looking for suggestions on pistons, rings, bearings and gaskets for it. Is there any specific brands to stay away from? How about any styles or brands of gaskets to go for.

Thanks in advance,

Use top brands and you will be good to go. Hope the previous mechanic is paying for his mistake.

Jegs and Summitracing are good sources. They sell mostly proven products at pretty fair prices. Good luck!

My mechanic is paying. When I showed him the piston and bolt he knew it was his mistake. As for Summit and Jegs, they have a ton of stuff and I'm sure it all works, but I was looking for end user input.

Thanks,

Chris
