Truck Purchase Price Advice

Hey guys. Thinking about buying a second truck and need some advice with prices these days. I know we should be able to get a good deal so I'll tell you the situation. I am considering a used Red 2007 Silverado Classic extended cab Z71 LT1 and I believe it has the conveniance package (steering wheel audio controls and dual zone AC). 13000 miles, 5.3 L flexfuel engine. Has a soft toneu cover and chrome running boards. This has been sitting on the lot for ~2 months now. They are asking 20995. Edmunds lists it as follows Trade in: 16697 and retail: 19571. Planning on trading in an 08 ford escape which edmunds lists as Trade in 16294, Retail: 20596. le to

What kind of deal should I be able to get? What do I go in and offer them? I want to get the deal as close as possible to a straight up trade as we are taking a hit on the 08 Ford that we screwed up when we bought by rushing into the wrong choice for us.

~1.5 years ago we also purchase a New NBS 2007 Sierra SLE 1 with convience package and the package that included back up sensors, and adjustable pedals. VMAX 6 litre package. Spend ~30k on it from the same salesman/dealer. In my mind this should make them more likely to make a deal.

My second option would be to have them get an new 08 Sierra (its a GMC dealer) ext. cab Z71, SLE1 on dealer trade for me. They have one but it is the purple color and I dont think I like it. What kind of price should I be able to get in on this? Is it worth it compared to the 07 classic?

I just saw a new '08 extended cab Sierra Z71 4X4 on eBay. It had the SLE1 package, preferred package and some other small options. The buy-it-now price was $ 22,800. The original MSRP is about $ 33k. I consider this a good deal.

any more thoughts? How about the used one? The asking price seems awfully high, should I be able to get it for edmunds or would you say even lower? How about classic vs NBS is it worth the extra $.

anyone? Want to go talk to the dealer tonight or tomorrow and want to be prepared.

I have always been a believer in buying a lightly-used vehicle and letting the first owner take the hit on the depreciation. In today's market, however, the rules are suspended. It's the end of the model year, and all three carmakers are experiencing the slowest sales in decades. Inventories of 2008 models are sitting in the dealer's lots and most are desperate to move them. There are some great deals to be had for a buyer who's not afraid of the process. I was looking at a nice used 2007 nnbs Silverado and found that I could actually buy a new 2008 model for $2k cheaper! In my area of the country (Austin) you can easily get $10k off sticker price on a mid-priced (around $30k) pickup by GM and $13-15k off similar trucks from Ford and Dodge.

Here's a tip on your trade-in: if you make a good deal on a new truck the dealer is going to squeeze you hard on the trade. If there's a Carmax in the area, take the trade-in there and ask them to make you an offer; I can almost guarantee that they'll offer more than the GM dealer. You can use their offer as a bargaining chip or sell it directly to Carmax if the dealer won't match it. The Carmax offer is good for 30 days.

+1 in Austin, those new ones are pretty cheap

Think I could get them down to 20 for a 2008 ext cab z71 SLE1? And 16500 for trade in. If so I could do it....If not....

On the used one does 18500 sound reasonable? The 20995 is way to high in my opinion.

18500 with 16500 trade in? Is it possible
