Z71 Is Lower Than 4x4?

Hey guys, I just found this site and it looks to have a wealth of knowledge. I just recently traded in my 05 f250 for a new 08 silverado and love the truck so much better than the ford. My truck is a crewcab Ltz with the max engine, 4 wheel drive, and z71 package. A coworker recently bought an 08 crew cab lt 4x4 and parks next to me everyday, his truck sits at least 2 inches higher than mine in the rear. My truck is level and his rearend is high. Tire size externally is the same height so what gives. I wish mine was like his becasue then I could do a front leveling kit and put bigger tires on.

maybe the tow package??? I have seen the GMT800 4x4s and Z71s next to each other and they are similar in height. I have yet to see that for the GMT900s as 4x4s and Z71s are not needed down here in Texas. By the way WE NEED PICS

Maybe the dealer put on some lowering shackes?

If it is 2 inches lower in the rear maybe the dealer leveled the truck using drop shackles. Z71 and 4x4 trucks share springs and suspension. Main difference as I recall is some skid plating and some jazzy decals.

They use different shock absorbers, different jounce bumpers and different sway bars in addition to the skid plates.

None of which should affect ride height.

Right, but the springs make up the ride height. I'm not saying that the package isn't good to have... just that their isn't much there to change the height of the truck. If anything, the Z71 should be higher with the high pressure shocks.

Z71 & Z85 trucks have the same springs "unless" it has the NHT pkg.

Also,Z71 & Z85 trucks have the same shocks,But again "NHT" trucks have different shocks.

Unless it has the "NHT" Max-Trailering Pkg. the rear springs are the same.

yeah...granted my truck ooooold, but I have the Z85 with max trailering package and I have the "blue" shocks and the ass end of my truck sits up higher than normal.

well... there is a possibility. GMT900 trucks all have the same shocks? I didn't know that. Didn't GMT800s have different shocks on the Z71 pack?

I'm talking about GMT900 trucks,Most of them now have the same shocks.

Yes...The GMT800 trucks had different shocks depending on what suspension package you have...Z83,Z85,Z71,or ZX3.

Yeah Jim,A lot of them now have the same shocks,But it still depends on what suspension and engine you have.

I will try to swing by the dealer and park next to a couple trucks and get some pictures. It definitely sits level though. Also I do not have the nht trailering package.
