Tranny Reverse Shift Delay

On my 05 Sierra I've been getting very long delays in tranny engagement when shifting into reverse lately. It's been pretty cold (-10 to -20) and it seems to only do this when cold. Once it warms up it's fine. And when I say very long delay, I mean like five whole seconds from the time the shifter hits R to the time the tranny finally gets into gear. That seems very abnormal to me and is not good for it when I think it's engaged, hit the gas, and it engages during higher RPMs.

I doubt this is normal operation but I'd love for someone to tell me otherwise. I know the rough 1-2 shift when cold is normal, but five seconds? Come on...

Incidentally, anyone know what the HD trailering package hitch is rated as? Class III or IV? Says 5,000 lbs. regular weight and 12,000 lbs. weight distributing if that helps.

I would say that the trans is limiting the gear changes because of the cold oil that is inside. once it warms up, then it works fine. GM designed the delayed shifting for two reasons, to allow the engine to warm up quicker and to protect the trans...
