03 1500hd Autotrack Trans Question

I have a 2003 1500HD, I have had the Service 4 wheel drive message come on, At that point I removed the truck from 4 wheel drive , witch did not make any noises and function as normal, Today we had some snow fly and I went to put the truck in 4 wheel drive to back down my slick driveway.

This truck when I push the electronic 4 wheel drive selector to put in 4 wheel drive does not do any thing it just stays in 2 wheel drive mode. Would the Service 4 wheel drive message disable the function of changing from 2 to 4 wheel drive.

 

Any feedback would be appreaciated.
