The only wiring was done at the floor harness/30pin seat connectors on each side. All the communications are done via GMLAN, so the wiring in the doors stays the same. I'm doing the writeup now... flashing was kind of a trial and error session... but what works is using a 2009 VIN from a _non-cadillac_ vehicle that has KB6 seats (Can't use cadillac calibrations because the seats are operated by the HVAC controls on the dash, not by door switches). The door window switches and the new MSM have to flashed.

I'm pretty sure that charcoal and ebony are the color.

If your truck has the AN3 option code, it should be prewired for these seats.

The memory seat module (under the drivers seat) controls all the power/lumbar/heat/memory functions. Making all the functions work requires that you have power windows, the memory/heat seat switch(drivers side) and heated seat switch (passenger side) installed into your door panels, and possibly some programming at the dealership.

 

If you dont care about making the memory seat recall or heated seat portion work, wiring for the just the power adjustable seat/lumbar is quite simple, just a few hot wires and grounds. Everything for the power movement/lumbar is self contained in the seats.

 

$900 for both front seats, plus freight. They are basically brand new seats, complete with the memory seat module and all wiring on both sides. I have a purpose-built shipping pallet for them.

 

I will do a write up on the heated/cooled seat (KB6) install this week and get it posted as soon as possible. I appreciate all the interest.

my truck doesn't have the AN3 code...if I understand you correctly, I could still get the power movement/lumbar by just getting power to the seat? ...are there 2 versions of the lumbar movement?.. can you enlighten me on that and tell me which version your's is?

I think LT2 trucks have a different door panel configuration, with the door handle itself located underneath the door arm rest. The power window switches are a different shape, though they might be the same electronically - I simply do not have a way of knowing. Best case, if the switches are the same, you'd have to create a spot within about 9 inches of the power window switches to mount the heated/cooled seat switch (thats how long the pigtails are that plug them into the door window switches). Then you'd bolt the seats in, and have to make the the memory seat module wired into the GMLAN network properly... I'm not saying its impossible, but it would involve a little bit more fabrication than a truck that already had LTZ interior. Alternatively, you could purchase new door panels, and essentially upgrade your interior to LTZ. Then everything would fit where it needs to.

 

what if you just have the LT2 option with power adjust? What all would be involved here?

There are 3 different power seats (that I know of) that came in our trucks.

The first is the LT2-style 6 way power adjustable seat. It can move back and forth, and move the front or rear of the seat cushion up or down. Seat back recline and lumbar are manual.

 

The second is the LTZ style seat, which features 12 way power adjustments - back and forth, seat cushion front and rear up and down, seat back power recline, lumbar in and out, and lumbar up and down. The seats I have seen with these features usually are heated also.

My old seats are of this design - charcoal leather, 12 way power, and heated w memory recall.

 

The third seat is the full KB6-optioned heated and cooled seats, they have all the features of the previous model but also the active heating and cooling systems.

 

If you have a fused 12v source, and a ground, I believe you can have all the power and lumbar features in the seats operational. Accordingly, I will bench test the seats I already have out of my truck to make sure this is the case and let you know for sure.

thanks for the seat info Rich...I'm definitley curious if the heat feature could be powered up also but the memory feature's not that important

It would be possible to wire a toggle switch that would turn on the heated seat elements directly, however, you'd also have to turn them off before they got too hot... one of the things the memory seat module does (in the heated only seats) is monitors the temp of the seating surfaces, and cycles power to the heating elements to maintain the desired level of heat. Making the heat part work like it was designed to from the factory would involve the power window switches being programmed, and the heated seat switch being installed in the door panels. Not impossible... but if you are going that far, you'll get the memory functions anyway, as the driver side heated seat switch also contains the memory seat buttons.

Bench tested the seats today, only requires a few wires be tied to a 12v always on source, and a good ground. All 12 power movements, including lumbar functions, work in this configuration.

You'd have to create a spot for the switches... pigtail from the heated switch to the door switch is about is about 1 foot long... 12 pin connector, so it would take a lot of splices to lengthen it, but it could be done if you wanted to mount them somewhere besides the door panel.

 

If you can, pull your drivers door switch out (should just pop straight up, carefully pry around the edges) and see if there is an empty connection on the bottom of the switch, 2 rows of 6 male pins.

    • probably won't get a response from that user, as they haven't returned to the site since making that one post.  users don't (at least I don't, and I haven't seen any setting which would notify me via say, email) get any notification other than going to this site, and checking if they got a response on their thread...
    • Thanks - I wasn't quite caffeinated this morning. 2:1 makes sense, turning the crankshaft 360 degrees will turn the cam 180 degrees, and had I done that, the cam's dot would be at 6 and the crank's at 12 again.   I went ahead and took the sprocket off anyway, aligned everything dot-to-dot including the balance shaft just for s&g. I'm glad I did because I discovered no Loctite on the timing sprocket bolts. Maybe it's not required, but at only 20 ft-lb torque spec, those bolts aren't in there very tight. Cleaned and reassembled with some thread locker and torqued.   A general observation: Less is more with RTV. If a little doesn't stop a leak, a LOT probably won't, either. RTV is thinly veiled revenge, in a tube...      
    • The timing marks are ok, that is #1, you can turn it over until they line up and it won't change anything, the crankshaft turns twice for every camshaft revolution, I have always set up SB Chevs as your pic shows using a straight edge
    • Someone's been here before.... There is a receipt for a 3-piece timing set, purchased earlier this year.   Is this picture something, or, nothing?   I have the timing cover off and my crank is perfectly TDC and the keyed gear's locating mark is dead on 12 o'clock.   The cam gear locating mark is also at 12 o'clock. Now, I'm not an expert, but all the install guides say the two locating marks should meet and be perfectly aligned when installing a timing set. The mark on the crank should be dead on 12:00 and the cam gear's mark should be dead on 6:00, and both marks should be perfectly vertically aligned.   I believe the timing gear is keyed or has a dowel that ensures it can only be installed on the cam in one position, so I have to believe the cam is out of phase somehow. At the very least, with a triangular bolt pattern, it can only be installed in one of 3 different positions.   Before I pulled the front cover, the truck was running alright, no service engine soon lights except an occasional P0172 / rich condition. Timing -16 timing at idle (should be +16), and total -35% fuel trim, two conditions I haven't been able to figure out.   In related news, my injector tested pretty well, wasn't leaking, but I had it rebuilt anyway, and it's on it's way back to me.         Along with this discovery, the good and bad:   Good: The oil pan seal appears undamaged.   Bad: -The timing cover has been reused, and the positioning dowels have been broken. That could explain some of the leaking. -Some kind of white paste or grease was used to try to seal the oil pan seal and timing cover (since wiped off..). -Then, someone globbed silicone all over the front of the cover and also buried the ckp sensor in it. But, they didn't put any inside the cover or use RTV to try to seal the oil pan seal with the timing cover (good).
    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.
