Mice In Heater

Hi- The 2005 GMC gas 3500 dump I bought had mice living in the heater box before I bought it. Is there any way to take it apart to clean it? I still have a nasty smell in the cab not to mention the occasional acorn and seeds that still blow out. Where do the mice get in?
