Anybody know what year Gm dropped there brains in the toilet and came up with the idea of the temp controlled block heater? I have an 04 Sierra, the plug is orange I sure don't see any tumor like thing on the plug either. It's pretty obvious when the heater is on and when it's not.Thinking the cord might actually be bad, have not yet checked with a meter. Thxs for any input.

Well I was told my dealer that my NBS has a thermostat in the block heater. It kicks in when its gets to -18C. It got down to -30c last night here and the block heater was working. I could make the plug spark when I plugged it in. I tired doing that when it was -7c and i couldn't.

Fullcuri, i am curious also. i have an 01 and I am wondering if I should bother installing a block heater I know I can remove the thermostat, someone posted on here how to do that. I am just wondering if the PCM on a 01 is affected by this.

Not sure if you have read the post on here about block heaters, but supposedly this retardedness has to do with a sensor check at startup, and if the motor is hot before it is started it throws a code. That and something to do with EPA regulations. :sigh:

I live in Wisconsin so sometimes it would be nice to plug in the truck overnight. I have a GMC dealer down the road. I should go and talk to them about this and see if they no if my truck will throw this stupid code, or if it is a pre-stupid code vehicle. I could then bypass that thermostat and try to put in a block heater or a tank heater.
