I live in a very snowy area, and would like to wash my truck periodically to keep the salt off.

My truck is often full of ice and or snow when I take it through the wash. Do I need to worry about the powerful water hitting the ice and potentially damaging my paint? Obviously I should be cleaning the truck as much as I can before taking it through the wash, but it's not easy to get caked ice off.

I'd think removing ANYTHING manually would increase the chance of hurting the paint. I vote for letting the carwash do it... or moving where there is no ice (even better).

You're fine. I've went thru the car wash many times with snow/slush on the truck from driving there. Just make sure you dry the door jambs when you're done otherwise the doors WILL freeze shut. Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything :gmc:

How long did it take to get in to the Truck?

Maybe 10 minutes or so with lots of beating and prying on the door. This was on my old truck so I didn't have the remote start option to assist me

The answer is yes, the pressure of the water could kick off a piece of ice and without a doubt scratch your paint. Be a man, wash by hand in the winter...if you live near me I'll do it for you

This should be the least of your worries during winter. My truck has been through almost 9 years of winters using touchless car washes and has survived just fine.

You didn't mention you had your own built-in system! I thought you were talking about a hose & wash-mit
