Nightrain04 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 My FIL just traded his 05 D-Max in on an 08 with the integrated brake controller. He gave me his Prodigy controller out of his 05, It was wired up with the connecter by the E-brake pedal I am wanting to put it in my 01 Gmc Sierra, I have read on here the wiring is different on the 03's and up, does any know the differences for the wiring between the plugs? Or should I buy a new plug?

Bluedog Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Two of the the wires are changed 2003 up. I'd just buy a new harness, IIRC they're not very expensive, and it will make for a better install IMO...

Now with the GMT900, I have to cut a perfectly good harness and splice and solder in the wires. BTW, the Prodigy is awesome controller. I would not tow without it.

Prodigy sells custom harnesses for all sorts of trucks and you get the correct connectors on both ends, making it a true plug-n-play install.

Nightrain04 Posted December 21, 2008 Author Posted December 21, 2008 I was able to find a TSB on here that showed how to make the 03+ harness work on the 99-02's, you have to take apart the plug on the GM harness and switch the A & D locations. a little research saved a few bucks.
hockeyfan39 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 i'v heard some good things about these brake controllers do they not have a direct plug harness for the 07+ nbs yet? I don't see anything on that chart.
Nightrain04 Posted December 21, 2008 Author Posted December 21, 2008 From the information I have been reading the NBS dont have the plug under the dash like the older bodystyle, it just has wires hanging, so you have to hardwire it I believe.
hockeyfan39 Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Ah so GM made it more difficult to do excellent. Anywhere know where to buy the prodigy brake controllers in edmonton alberta area? What do these things generally cost? There some good deals on ebay?

They are a largely a wholesaler but also allow retail sales. Better than getting ripped off at an RV dealer. http://www.greggdistributors.ca/
Burbman Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I have ordered from e-Trailer in the pqast and they have good prices, not sure if they ship to canada or not. They also have all of the Prodigy harnesses, I believe thay included the one I needed free with the Prodigy. Agree it's one of the best controllers on the market today.
hockeyfan39 Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Okay great i will check both of those out what is different between the prodigy and the p3?
Raymond Lowe Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 The P3 is their latest model. Can't say it's any better than a Prodigy. About the only functional difference is that the P3 has the ability to control electric over hydraulic brakes. So if your trailer isn't running hydraulic disc brakes, then the Prodigy will do fine.
hockeyfan39 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Okay just getting around to ordering it now. I found it on the gregs distrubutor site but what harness do i get, or does it come with it generally? I just looked at the site and the 3015 seems to be the latest harness model which is available through gregs. From what i understand you have to do some splicing to the truck to make the old harness work? According to the Tekonsha site that one is good for up to the 07 classic.
