Transfere Case 99 Tahoe

Hey guys I have a 99 Tahoe and seems that I might have a problem with the transfere case. The deal is that it sounds like a bering or bushing has worn out because I get this sound like a bering has gone at or a little ball is being thrown around in there. It not only happens when driving but also when the truck is off and put in nuetral and let it roll. I original thought it was the u-joint but i lifted the car off the ground rotated the tires and it seems that its coming from the tail shaft of the transfer case. 4WD works in Hi and Lo but the noise is slightly worse. Any ideas? Should I attempt to change the fluid and see if that helps? Thanks

Did you check the fluid level? Are there any signs of external fluid leakage? On some of these transfer cases the oil pump rubs a hole through the housing.

Might be a stretched chain. It's pretty common to have the chain stretch out and make a little noise. I just had my TC rebuilt and we changed the chain as well as all the bearings and some other things like the casesaver mod to the oil pump.
