New 6-speed

I was looking into getting a new 09 Silverado or maybe waiting to get a 2010 Silverado. I was wanting to hear some of your opinions on the new 6 speed transmission. Is it any good? Have there been any problems with it? Thanks.

There have been quite a few discussions about the 6 speed. It's not really that new. It's been available in the HD's for a while and in the Denali for 2 years. I think most people really like it, some hate it. I think some of it depends on how you use the truck and what type of area you live in. Personally, if I was buying new, I would probably buy the 6 speed. But, after driving my truck now that it is tuned, I would not hesitate to buy a 4 speed if the price was right.

My 6L80 is MUCH better to drive compared to the 4L60 in mu 01 Tahoe. Of course, the 400HP motor might have something to do with that

The 6L80 is used in the 1/2 ton trucks and the HD's get the 6L90. Both are very strong transmissions. Great for towing with the tow/haul mode. Driving around town is a blast with a 6-speed. You can out-accelerate most other vehicles at a light with 1/3 throttle thanks to the deep first and close second.

 

The 6L80 is rated for 439ft lbs on the input so it's quite capable.
