I just bought a truck, I requested a build sheet, I have it in front of me and it shows that it has the G80 locking diff, and this truck is a 4x4.. Is that weird or not? Do I have the best of both worlds?

No,Its not "weird",G80 is pretty common these days,Its actually harder to find a truck these days without the G80 than it is with.

Not weird to me. But then I'm a little :D.

My last three trucks have been like that, 4x4 with a G80.

All my trucks have came with the G80, and when I was looking for my V-Max most trucks that came with the 5.3 had the G80.

I am betting that there are good odds that it has 3.73 gearing too!

Okay, back to the actual thread here - I have the locker and a Z71 4x4 on my '05. I don't know of a Z71 out there without the locker. Strange though because it pretty much requires the use of 4wd in the winter, as the rearend slides all over the place on snow/ice when locked. Granted, that is somewhat fun for awhile....

I watched a whole program on the nbs trucks where the standard non-locking diff, was just as good if not better depending on situation. I think that was a motor trend show or something. Point being technology has came a long way. Personaly im still a fan of a locker, got to have both wheels spining for me. I belive you would proboley have to order a truck thats 4x4 and not have a G80 unit in the back. All the trucks ive had have had a locker unit and works great.
