Diesel Engine Oil Found In Top Of Radiator.

We want to purchase a GMC W5500 (Isuzu NQR) and when we went to check it out this is what we found. The truck is a 2005 reefer with over 300,000 miles. We found engine oil sitting in the top of the radiator when we were checking all the fluid levels. What could be causing this problem ??? The truck has had strict maintance records for the past 3 years and has no past history of any type of major problems. Thanks for any Help.

Does it have an oil cooler? If it does that would be the first place o would look, if that isn't it i would assume it would need a head gasket. Of course I'm not there to really look it over so I can't be positive.

I have a k3500 duramax pickup that has oil dripping on top of the radiator. After chainging the oil, I left the cap off. Drove the truck and oil got on the engine hood liner. Its still a little wet two years later

 

Maybe a big problem, maybe not.

OK guys, the oil is inside the radiator about an inch from the top where you would add antifreeze to the liquid antifreeze. It appears that the engine oil is clean and ok , Not a milky mix which would be an indication of the antifreeze getting to the engine oil , rather it appears that the engine oil is getting to the antifreeze ??? If that makes sense. I'm not familar with this setup but it is an Isuzu 4 cyl. 5.2l Diesel engine located in a 2005 W5500 GMC. If you would be able to supply any more comments on this, Thanks.

Engine oil in the antifreeze could be coming from a bad intake gasket. I am not at all familiar with that engine - but I have seen it on plenty of other Gas engines.

As previously stated it is probly the oil cooler, I know on the natural gas side,CAT 7.0l 3304s blow them up all the time.
