Replacement Air Compressor Hose

I have a 26 gal, 1.6 hp, 160 psi, 6.3 SCFM @ 40 psi/4.9 @ 90 psi air compressor that came with a 25 ft 1/4 hose.

 

What would be the advantage, or disadvantage, of going to a 50 ft 3/8 hose? I'm more concerned about the 3/8 hose size and the effect it will have on tool operation. I know I'll be able to reach something twice as far away. Right now I only have a 3/8 air ratchet and a 1/2 impact wrench. I may get a drill and air hammer and maybe a cutting tool sometime in the future.

 

I don't want to waste my money if there is no real benefit.

All my hoses are 3/8x 50ft.,I've had as many as 4 connected together and the tool I was using worked just as good as if I had only one hose.I never really thought of using anything else,I do have one 50' 1/4'' plastic coil hose I use sometimes with no real changes in tool operation.I have many air tools and use 'em all.I'd rather go and buy a tool than borrow from someone..if I needed it once there's a chance I might need it again and it will be readilly available.Be sure to get some air tool oil & use it every time you use a tool.There are automatic oilers available too.

Buy the 3/8" x 50' hose. There are only advantages to the 3/8" hose. It's better to run more hose than to hook an air compressor to an extension cord. You can find good prices on air hoses if you shop around

I've had a few 3/8" 50 footers hooked up to each other (100-150') with no noticeable difference in air pressure output. Just watch for leaks (which is an easy fix). Definitely better that than using an extension cord like txab mentioned. You can even buy (or make) those hose spools that reel in the hose. Makes for a more tidy work area.

it really depends on what you are running, but there is less pressure drop at the tool compared to at the gauge.

 

Kinda like voltage drop on a long drop cord.
