What kind of amp do i need to push this sub to its max? how many watts?

Get the best and most powerful amp that your budget will allow.

 

It doesn't matter if your amp is capable of producing 10x what the subwoofer is rated to handle as long as you don't get carried away with the gain setting. If you hear distortion, just turn it down and you'll never have problems. An amp that is "too big" for a sub is actually a good thing because there will be extra power for loud peaks in your music and for possible future upgrades.

Well ill ebay.. watever i need.. i need a ballpark.. i bridged my 800w 2 channel and thats was not near enough.. so something more like a 1000w? or more????

Well according to JL's website they say the new version will take 300w rms optimally. I'm sure they can handle more too. What brand amp do you have now? I know you said that you bridged your 800w 2 channel but if it was say a Sony xplode amp your not really pushing anything to brag about out of the amp. Understand what I'm saying? Also I don't see where it says if this a dvc or svc sub. I'm assuming its a dvc. How is it wired? Is this the 2, 4, or 8ohm version of the sub? All this makes a difference with the power aswell.

Now I may sound dated, but everyone I knew back in the day running JL Audio Subs ran Precision Power Class D amplifiers, now I dont know if they are still as good as they were back then, but they are still around. I have always ran American Bass myself untill most recently I could not afford the amp I wanted and went with a Lanzar class D 1ohm 1000 wts it runs my 15's very well.

You will want a class d amp which ever one you buy, I would again buy the biggest amp you can afford, 2 channel bridgeable.
