NASCAR race shops.

If anyone is ever in the Charlotte area traveling on Interstate 77 and you want to check out some of the NASCAR race shops, get off on exit 36.  On the western side of the interstate there are quite a few shops.  Some that come to mind are Penske Racing, Chip Ganassi Racing (the old SABCO Racingteam), Eel River Racing, and some Busch teams.  When Ricky Rudd owned his team it used to be there as well as the old Bahari Racing team.  I havn't stopped in there in a few years, so I don't know if other teams took over the buildings.  In the fall, when the leaves are off, you can see the buildings from I-77.  DEI Racing is on the eastern side of I-77, but it's not as close.  From what I remember when stopping by there last summer, it was 10-15 away from the interstate.

If interested, here's a good site with more info.

BTW, the DEI race shop is pretty impressive!  Mirrored glass with gold trim on the outside, black marble floors inside.  It's a racing palace.

Thanks. I'm incredibly interested in cup engines. Next time I'm around these parts, I'll know where to go. I just happen like Ward Burton and the review of his shop was promising.

BTW what's with N.C. and VA? Why are all the shops there?

As you probably know, NASCAR used to be a "Southern Sport"  Some of the teams have been located around that area for years and years before NASCAR was even close to being as popular nation wide as it is now.  That area is kind of centralized to most of the tracks on the east coast too.

These are just my personal thoughts, there may be other reasons.

Just a quick note to this.  I'm coming home tomorrow, right now I'm in NC.  The 600 was awesome.  I got personal tours (behind the scenes) of the Petty Enterprises shop and Bill Davis's shop, when I get home I'll give a full report.
