Those numbers are absolutely incorrect. There are 118,000 deaths from accidents (unintentional injury) each year.

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr56/nvsr56_10.pdf

Motor vehicle accidents make up a large chunk of those deaths. Don't get me wrong, I'm not for strict gun control laws, but ridiculous "statistics" like this don't help the cause in my opinion.

This is another one of those topics that is just about impossible to discuss without politics.

So consider this post fair warning folks...Tread very lightly in here or it goes buh-bye.

Politics was the farthest thing from my mind when I posted this. A lot of Truck-owners are hunters and gun owners and I thought it was of interest to them in the off-topic. I will not post gun topics again.

Gun topics are not bad really. I like guns...I own guns. I like shooting shit.

But when the point of the thread starts out with figures defending gun ownership, that's just a political football that never makes it to an endzone.

I'm not jumping on you for starting it. As the topic itself isn't close to being against the rules. I was just giving advance warning to the folks that invariably can't keep their political junk in their pants. :D

Percentages and statistics are misleading and easy to manipulate. I did not read the articles or threads, but I do know when an entity wants to distort they can quote a percentage that is next to impossible to verify and the sheep-like drones that read the paper will take it as gospel. But don't take my word for it, 87% of the Hungarian speaking proctologists agree with that fact.

I like the post a little further down...

Off of the fighting for liberty website...

Estimated guns in the United States: 275 million (roughly).

Estimated swimming pools in the United States: 2.5 million (roughly - according to Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, 2004)

Unintentional firearm deaths ages 0-14 (according to the CDC) from 2000 to 2005: 412.

Unintentional drowning deaths from 2000 to 2005 ages 0-14: 4,993.

Clearly the only solution is to make sure we have diving board locks installed on all pools in this country. And no pool should be installed within 5 miles of a water source of any kind. Registration, chlorine microstamping, and some way to prevent the exploited “diving in” loophole are necessary.

Swimming pools … the silent suburban killer stalking your children in your own backyard

People can come up with statistics to prove anything, 40% of all people know that.
