Acording to the spec sheet on Chevrolet.com the 6.2L is only available on the 1500 model LTZ as an "option"

Oil capacity I havent found yet but I would bet it's a 6 quart block

I seen a spec sheet for the new camaro SS and that 6.2L is 8.6 qts but I think thats because of the dry sump system.

8 1/2 qts??? wow, one heck of an expensive oil change for sure. I looked on GM Powertrain/vortec. They list the 6.2L for the trucks as a small block but the press relese on the vett doesnt say if its a small or big block. They show pictures of the 2 enhins but its hard to tell if its the same block or not from the pic.

As for them making it avail for other models is iffy in the near future. With how volitole the economy is right now anything new I would bet they would take thier sweet time making it avaiable for us pee-ons. Remember way back in '01 when they came out with the 2500HD (I remember you from back then) they made it very difficult to order one with those so called allocation unit things. I would guess we wont see the 6.2 as a regular option for a few years or so......

I should also add in case you were refering to the Tahoe's that the 6.2 is also available in them as well,But again only in LTZ trim.

Oh I'm sure eventually it will be offered in all the same models that the 6.0 is offered in now,GM is planning on "phasing out" the 6.0 which will be replaced by the 6.2 across the board.

As far as when I haven't heard,But if/when I do hear something I'll let you know,Because when they start offering the 6.2 in the LT ext.cabs I'll be all over that!! :sigh:

Is the 6.2 as much of a gas pig as the 6.0?? In my old HD I had the 6.0 and mine sucked up gas like a cold beer on a hot day

GM builds no Mark big blocks for production, all the current 4.8,5.3,6.0 & 7.0L engines and are from the "LS" series. As for oil capacity the trucks all use an oil pan and require 6 qts. The 6.2 & 7.0L Corvette engines are dry sump and require 8.6qts. The Camaro probably will in the 6.2L HP engine will be the same engine the Corvette uses.

Honestly,I don't know what the 6.2 is rated for.

I know the 6.0 in our '07 HD parts truck (GMT900) averages around 11/12 around town.

The 6.0 in mine averages 15/16 around town, and I can get 17/18 on the highway "if" I stay out of the gas a lot!

All the current "LS" series engines (4.8,5.3,6.0,6.2,7.0) are small-blocks.

And before you trade your current truck in on a new one, we're gonna swap your LT2 console into my truck and put the jumpseat into the trade-in...right?
